ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf Chairman Imran Khan on Thursday announced full support to the Sindh nationalist parties and PML-Functional’s strike call against the dual local bodies system in the province, saying it was first step towards the division of Sindh.

In a statement issued here, the PTI chief maintained that his party would oppose any measure to be taken for the division of the province on rural-urban lines. “We totally support the nationalists and PML-Functional leader Pir Pagara’s strike on this count,” he said.

Imran noted that the PTI would not allow the PPP-led government to play with the destiny of people of Sindh under the pretext of local government system and alleged that a separate local government system for rural and urban Sindh was a ploy to divide the province.

He charged that the PPP government was punishing the people of Sindh for voting it to power in 2008 general election by leaving them at the mercy of criminals.
