I use only 4 fingers while typing (Both indexes and ring fingers). I type without looking at the keyboard and always thought I was pretty fast. But I recently took a typing test on facebook and realised my speed is about 65 words per minute. This is slow considering it showed I had many friends who were as high as 110 wpm. I think it's because they touch type. Using all 10 fingers. How many of you guys touch type?

I usually type with 6 fingers and sometimes with only 2 fingers.
and only look at the keyboard while typing, and my typing speed is decent with around 50-55 words pm.

i cant do it, i can just do by two fingers :S

In most foreign schools they allow you to take a touch typing course in school. This should be added to the Indian computer curriculum too. I mean, we're all forum dwellers here. Imagine how much time we'd save if we doubled our typing speed.

I'm a programmer and I still need to look down from time to time when typing. I think I'd get off 60 words per minute when writing an article etc. I think being able to type fast is over-rated.

Yeah I program too. Thats the reason I don't have to look at the keyboard. I type all day. Try it for 2-3 days and you wont have to look at the keyboard too. Trust me it worked for me.

Thanks, I might give it a try. BTW, two Indian programmers eh? What are the chances of that!

Lol. My dad likes to say Indians are born with C++ as their first language and their mother tongue second. :D
I'm only 18 btw. I started programming when I was 12 (Actually 8 if you count logo as a programming language). I plan to go to IIT. :)

Lol, that's crazy! I'm 19. I'm actually learning C++ right now. I know Java, HTML, and PHP. I learnt Logo in my school when I was 8 just like you! We have too much in common man. :)

I'm only starting to do C++. Have to make a morse code translator. you'll probably think that's simple but I'm finding it pretty hard.

You're 19? Surprising. It seems impossible to find a defence enthusiast my age. My girlfriend once almost dumped me when she asked me 'whats new' and I said 'MKI may get AESA' :D
i agree, too much in common. And C++ is easy. I started with Javan and HTML too.. But once you're good with the logic you can write in any language.
