Four deadly attacks in Pakistani province of KPK ruled by PTI headed by cricketer Imran Khan have exposed the nexus between the ruling party and the terrorists of Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP). Imran Khans open, and unambiguous, expression of sympathies with the terrorists has emboldened the beasts to an extent that they have hit major targets with impunity. These attacks have strengthened the hands of, and stand taken by, Khan to give political space to the terrorists, initiate a dialogue with them and allow them to open an office. Some critics have seen the developments with dismay and dubbed Khans PTI as a political wing of the terrorists. Khan is already known as Taliban Khan.
TTP has, so far, attacked civilians and military personnel including key defense installations and, according to an estimate, killed nearly 60,000 including 7,000 security personnel. The military targets attacked were selected carefully to damage Pakistans defense capabilities.
Earlier this months, an All Parties Conference (APC) was convened in Islamabad which, in order to appease the terrorists, extended to them the much-needed legitimacy. They were recognized by the politicians as Stakeholders, and a sovereign entity. Nearly all the analysts described the declaration issued at the end of APC as an instrument of surrender.
Within a week of this conference, the terrorists attacked a military convoy killing a serving major general and his staff. The major general was the commander of Swat area which was cleared of the terrorists through a military action in 2009 after exhausting all the political options of dialogue and agreements. Militants have always used the option of dialogue, agreement and cease-fire to strengthen their positions.
A church in Peshawar was targeted on Sunday, September 29 killing 82 including men, women and children congregating peacefully. On Friday, a bus of government servants heading for Fridays weekly congregation was attacked near Peshawar killing 20 and a market in Peshawar city was attacked on Sunday killing 42. The attacks taking place in quick succession only indicate that the terrorists are desperate to pressure the government into accepting their terms before any dialogue is initiated. And the fact that they have selected Peshawar, the seats of PTIs government for deadly attacks speaks volumes about a possible nexus between PTI and TTP to push Imran Khans agenda. Every time an attack takes place, Khan comes out defending the terrorists and providing justifications for the attack. He has not, even for once, condemned the attackers who readily accept the responsibility.
This reminds of the reign of clergys government in 2002-08. The terrorists, particularly the Swat chapter, were provided space by the government to strengthen their position. During this period, nearly 30,000 kilometers of land, about 4% of Pakistans total area, was ceded to them through shady peace deals which could not provide peace. It only provided land to them to be able to form their own government in that area.
