PARIS, June 15, 2007 (AFP) - France will on Sunday open an air-bridge to ferry in humanitarian aid to victims of the Darfur crisis living in camps in eastern Chad, the defence ministry said Friday.

"At the request of the president, we will put into place an air-bridge between Abeche and Goz Beida in the east of Chad. The start of operations is due Sunday," a spokesman said.

Two Transall transport planes are to fly to Chad to reinforce the three that are already there, he said.

More than 200,000 Sudanese refugees are living in Chad alongside 150,000 displaced Chadians.

Funny isnt it, Western power's doing what they can, while their fellow muslim bretherns the arabs, pakistani's etc havent even looked their way. What happened to islamphobia in france. Why are they helping Islamic People.?

.
Over the past week, President Gen Pervez Musharraf contacted several world leaders to help addresshumanitarian crisis at Darfur, Sudan.

[…]In his contacts with world leaders, the president emphasized that the situation should not be allowed to spin out of control in order to save Sudan and the international community from a grave tragedy.

[…]The president telephoned President Omar Hasan Ahmad Al-Bashir of Sudan to underline that the implementation of commitments between the UN and the Sudanese government provided the framework for a viable solution to the Darfur crisis.

President Bashir appreciated President Musharraf’s keen interest and briefed him about efforts the Sudanese government was making to resolve the problem. The president also conveyed to President Bashir the concern of the Islamic world on the issue and its consequences for the brotherly people of Sudan.

Later, the President spoke to UN Secretry-General Kofi Annan and US Secretary of State Colin Powell to underscore the need for a diplomatic solution to the issue instead of sanctions or threat of sanctions.

[…]During the past few weeks, leaders of Sweden, Finland, Germany and the US telephoned the president and requested him to play a greater role in defusing the situation in Darfun, the press release said.

China & Pakistan may contribute to joint Darfur peacekeeping force, U.N. diplomat says

ADDIS ABABA, Ethiopia – China and Pakistan are considering contributing troops to a peacekeeping force for Sudan's Darfur region , a U.N. diplomat said Saturday, after Sudan accepted the possibility of non-African soldiers in the mission.
The joint African Union-U.N. peacekeeping force will be predominantly African, said Dumisani Kumalo, South Africa's ambassador to the United Nations. But if African countries are unable to muster enough troops, “we will look to other countries to do that as we do in every peacekeeping force,” he said.

The U.N. department of peacekeeping operations has said “China, Pakistanand others have started looking favorably” at contributing to the force, Kumalo told reporters after a meeting between U.N. Security Council ambassadors and African Union officials.

After months of U.N. and Western pressure, Sudan agreed Tuesday to allow a joint force of up to 19,000 peacekeepers to replace the 7,000-member AU mission now in Darfur. The ill-equipped and underfunded AU force has been unable to stop four years of warfare that have left more than 200,000 dead.

African Union officials assured the U.N. Security Council delegation that Sudan's acceptance of the joint force “was unconditional,” said Zalmay Khalilzad, the U.S. ambassador to the U.N. “We will go and talk to the Sudanese government next to hear from them their own perspective on this agreement.”

Westerners have been skeptical about any commitment from Sudanese President Omar Al-Bashir because he has repeatedly backtracked on promises to move forward on Darfur.

On Wednesday, Akuei Bona Malwal, the deputy head of Sudan's diplomatic mission in Ethiopia, said the force could be in Darfur by October, depending on how quickly the United Nations and African Union are able to get troops and funds.

Malwal said that Sudan wanted Africans to make up the entire mission, but if that was not possible, it would accept contributions from “friendly” countries.

Khalilzad said a group of AU, U.N. and Sudanese officials would work out the details of troop contributions, funding and the timing for the deployment.

Darfur's conflict started in 2003 when local rebels took up arms against the Sudanese government, accusing it of decades of neglect. Sudanese leaders are accused of unleashing the pro-government Arab militia, known as the janjaweed, in response, a charge the government denies.

from some news said:
The official in charge of Sudan affairs for the Arab League, Samir Hosni, on Thursday said a number of Arab states were prepared to send military observers as part of the African Union mission in Darfur. Meanwhile, the African Union announced plans to expand the mission from 300 to 1,800 troops, and to give it a mandate to protect civilians as well as safeguard African Union ceasefire monitors.

since you are very concerned about genocide; lets talk about Genocide in Kashmir; There is civil unrest against the occupation of Indian Occupied Kashmir. India is responding with brutal force to crush the civil unrest demanding end of Indian rule. A number of U.N. resolutions have been passed condemning the Indian occupation of 2/3 of Kashmir. As always, the U.N. has not been able to implement its resolution; but they are quick to jump into Dafur; Dafur is rich in oil this is why U.S. and Britain are seeking a pretext for intervention in order to take advantage of Sudan's oil; how come they dont raise their voices for kashmir?

Briton named as buyer of Darfur oil rights

A millionaire British businessman, Friedhelm Eronat, was named last night as the purchaser of oil rights in the Darfur region of Sudan, where the regime is accused of war crimes and where millions of tribespeople are alleged to have been forced to flee, amid mass rapes or murders.
The disclosure was greeted with outrage by human rights campaigners. "From a moral point of view these people are paying a government whose senior members may end up in front of the international criminal court for war crimes," Simon Taylor, director of Global Witness, said yesterday.

A London representative of the Darfur rebels last night called for oil exploration to stop until there was a peace settlement. "The only beneficiaries are the ruling elite," Ahmad Hussein Adam told Channel 4 news. "This is going to support their military campaign against our people."
Documents seen by the Guardian suggest that Mr Eronat, who lives in a £20m house in Chelsea, swapped his US passport for a British one shortly before the deal was signed with the Sudan regime in October 2003...............

Western governments talk about freedom;democracy & liberation whenever their is oil involved, why will they ever criticize Indian Army in Kashmir; there is nothing of interest in that valley that concerns them.
