The COVID-19 , also known as the coronavirus pandemic, is an ongoing pandemic of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID‑19) caused by severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS‑CoV‑2). The outbreak was identified in Wuhan, China, in December 2019. The World Health Organization declared the outbreak a Public Health Emergency of International Concern on 30 January, and a pandemic on 11 March. As of 7 May 2020, more than 3.78 million cases of COVID-19 have been reported in over 187 countries and territories, resulting in more than 264,000 deaths. More than 1.25 million people have recovered.

The virus is primarily spread between people during close contact, often via small droplets produced by coughing, sneezing, and talking. The droplets usually fall to the ground or onto surfaces rather than remaining in the air over long distances. People may also become infected by touching a contaminated surface and then touching their face. On surfaces, the amount of virus declines over time until it is insufficient to remain infectious, but it may be detected for hours or days. It is most contagious during the first three days after the onset of symptoms, although spread may be possible before symptoms appear and in later stages of the disease. Common symptoms include fever, cough, fatigue, shortness of breath, and loss of smell. Complications may include pneumonia and acute respiratory distress syndrome.

What is quarantine?

A state, period, or place of isolation in which people or animals that have arrived from elsewhere or been exposed to infectious or contagious disease are placed. Common symptoms include fever, cough, fatigue, shortness of breath, and loss of smell. Complications may include pneumonia and acute respiratory distress syndrome. Quarantine is often an unpleasant experience for those who undergo it. Separation from loved ones, the loss of freedom, uncertainty over disease status, and boredom can, on occasion, create dramatic effects.

The very first case was reported on 17 November from Hubei province in China and from there it spreads to all over the world. In China, as of 5 February, about 80 per cent of deaths were recorded in those aged over 60, and 75 per cent had pre-existing health conditions including cardiovascular diseases and diabetes. Not only china other countries are also fighting with COVID-19. Not only in China, this virus extended to European countries as well. Then those countries who were suffering of COVID – 19 went under the complete lockdown. Quarantine and isolation are well-established methods of dealing with infectious disease and before the modern era were frequently the only tools available to prevent disease spread. Worries are mounting that prolonged quarantines, supply chain disruptions and a sharp reduction in tourism and business travel could weaken the global economy or even cause a recession.

COVID -19 lockdown all over the country.

In March, Pakistan had imposed a country wide lockdown, closing down shops, markets, shopping centers, and offices except for emergency service, in a desperate move to curb the surging COVID-19 cases. Due to lockdown all over the country, daily wagers are struggling to survive in their homes. Several countries, like Pakistan, Spain, Iran, Italy, Denmark and Germany, that previously imposed restrictions are beginning to lift lockdown measures

COVID-19 can be characterized as a pandemic. This is due to the rapid increase in the number of cases in Pakistan over the past 2 weeks. Pandemic in Pakistan is causing economic damage through multiple channels, including short-term fiscal shocks and longer-term negative shocks to economic growth. The COVID-19 pandemic was confirmed to have reached Pakistan on 26 February 2020, when a student in Karachi tested positive upon returning from Iran. By 18 March, cases had been registered in all four provinces,

To combat the spread of COVID-19 in Pakistan, PM Imran khan signed the “Stay Home, Stay Safe” executive order. People of Pakistan must stay in their homes unless they’re a part of that critical infrastructure workforce, engaged in an outdoor activity, or performing tasks necessary to the health and safety of themselves or their family, like going to the hospital or grocery store.

COVID – 19 Impacts on the Global Community.
The pandemic has affected the political systems of multiple countries, causing suspensions of legislative activities, isolations or deaths of multiple politicians, and rescheduling of elections due to fears of spreading the virus. The pandemic has affected educational systems worldwide, leading to the near-total closures of schools, universities and colleges. As of 27 April 2020, approximately 1.725 billion learners are currently affected due to school closures in response to the pandemic. According to UNICEF monitoring, 186 countries are currently implementing nationwide closures and 8 are implementing local closures, impacting about 98.5 percent of the world's student population. School closures impact not only students, teachers, and families, but have far-reaching economic and societal consequences. The worldwide disruption caused by the pandemic has resulted in numerous impacts on the environment and the climate. The severe decline in planned travel has caused many regions to experience a drop in air pollution.

To prevent infection and to slow transmission of COVID-19, do the following:
  • Wash your hands regularly with soap and water, or clean them with alcohol-based hand rub.
  • Maintain at least 1 meter distance between you and people coughing or sneezing.
  • Avoid touching your face.
  • Cover your mouth with handkerchief and nose when coughing or sneezing.
  • Stay home if you feel unwell.
  • Refrain from smoking and other activities that weaken the lungs.
  • Practice physical distancing by avoiding unnecessary travel and staying away from large groups of people.
As UN secretary general had said that:
“What the world needs now is solidarity"."With solidarity we can defeat the virus and build a better world.”

Someone had also said that: “In the middle of difficulty lies opportunity.”

So as a Muslims we should never lose our hope and keep praying to Allah to send his blessings upon us.
Be ready to fight against COVID – 19 and believe that Allah is with us.
