I already posted this in the other Iraq reconstruction thread, but I think this definitely deserves its own thread.

The initial stages of construction has begun on the new besmaya city in Baghdad province, just 10KM away from Baghdad city. The project cost $8 billion dollars and is part of a plan to build 2 million housing units in Iraq to fill the growing needs and help reduce the pressure that was created as a result from the destruction during Saddams rule. Two similar cities are also planned to be built in basrah and are in the design stage.

A south Korean company has won the contract for this project. Korea now has about $15 billion worth of contracts in Iraq.

This is a video about another 100,000 unit city planned for Basrah, two are planned for basrah. The one in the video is being designed by Dewan architecture and the design will be complete by the end of this year. The place is south of Basrah city, about half an hour drive.

The other 100,000 unit in Basrah is on the other side of Shatt al Arab, adjacent to Basrah city. It is approved and technical preparations are ongoing. The construction will hopefully begin something in the next one or two years.

That's quite amazing, I have never heard of such project in Pakistani, any details on it, link?

Most people live in overcrowded homes, that's the main reason. It has nothing to do with the new cons. Construction has to go on with or without these organizations you speak of.

That's quite a project. But let's not forget the population density is much higher in Pakistan, Karachi's is about 21 million, while Iraq's total population is about 34 million.
