LAHORE: Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif on Monday ordered that road shows be arranged abroad to promote awareness regarding the Punjab Overseas Pakistanis Commission.
“Modern technology should be used to address grievances of overseas Pakistanis,” the chief minister told a meeting that reviewed the commission’s performance.
Participants of the meeting discussed several proposals for making the commission more efficient.
Calling the commission an effective institution, Sharif said it had been tasked with resolving the problems faced by Pakistanis living abroad. He said under the commission, committees had been set up in all Punjab districts.
“Complainants from across the country may approach the commission to seek relief,” he said. He favoured the use of video-link technology to improve the commission’s performance.
Earlier, Overseas Pakistanis Commission Commissioner Afzaal Bhatti briefed the meeting. He said the commission had already provided relief to a number of overseas Pakistanis. He said arrangements had also been made to hold road shows in several countries.
The chief secretary, the IGP, Overseas Pakistanis Commission Vice Chairperson Khalid Shaheen Butt and the Punjab Information Technology Board chairman attended the meeting.
Ramazan Bazaars
Sharif said Sastay Ramazan Bazaars would be set up to provide essentials at subsidised rates during Ramazan.
He told a meeting at Civil Secretariat through video link fair price shops would be established at the bazaars to provide good quality fruits and vegetables. “Essentials, including flour and sugar, will be available at rates less than the market,” he said.
The chief minister said the government would not tolerate hoarding. He asked the cabinet committee and departments concerned to submit their recommendations in this regard within five days.
Chinese consul general
Chinese Consul General Yu Boren met the chief minister and discussed matters related to the $46 billion economic package announced during Chinese President Xi Jinping’s recent visit to Pakistan.
Knowledge Park
Sharif said the proposed Knowledge Park would be the first of its kind in South Asian.
“Students from across the will be able to get admission at educational institutions to be established at Knowledge Park,” he told a meeting.
The chief minister said the project would bring about a revolution in the education sector across South Asia. He informed the meeting that residential facilities for teachers and students, a shopping mall and a recreation centre would be part of the project.
