Taking notice of a man’s plea that his son had been brainwashed by an alleged faith healer in Lahore, Chief Justice of Pakistan Justice Saqib Nisar has directed Punjab police chief to submit a report in this regard.
In a letter to the top court’s human rights cell, a copy of which is available with The Express Tribune, Qazi Shakeeluddin Ahmed stated that his son Salman Shakeel had started to behave awkwardly after being introduced to the healer Sufi Khurram.
Faith healers continue to exploit masses
Shakeel had grown beard and began to dress differently, wearing shalwar kameez and eventually dropped out of his university on the pretext that girl pupils were his classmates in the course.
Ahmed seemed to believe that the healer had radicalised his son and hence should be taken to task. According to him, Sufi Khurram was currently holding his son hostage at an apartment.
In pursuance with the order, the human right cell of the cop court directed the IG to submit a report before November 16.
