This is a lot of money for just one country, Chinese students go to many countries for higher education because of rat race competition at home. China should keep building more universities and reducing the pressure of Gaokao on the students, if most students can pass Gaokao, this money can be saved in China

Actually it says most of these are from state schools (which are subsidized by taxpayers) not private universities.

See the perplexed response from the interviewer about why should states be subsidizing foreign students educations instead of offering all the seats to the locals.

The whole purpose of state schools was to offer a better price for their residents who can't afford the higher cost of private universities.

I bet most people don't even realize that Chinese students are mostly in state schools. That's the first I heard that.

Tuition is just a small part of the money they contribute to US economy, based on some reports, living expenses they spend are way more than just tuition.

China should increase the number of trade schools and societal respect for trades as well
