China’s Y-8Q Anti-Submarine Aircraft Has a Giant Stinger – What Does it Do?

The Y-8Q is a Chinese anti-submarine patrol plane, and a derivative of the Y-8 transport. It is a key investment by the PLA Navy to bolster ASW assets within the first & second island chains.REFERENCES

It is reported that the naval forces of the PLA Southern Fleet from January 2023 began to receive an upgraded version of the Kunqian-200 / Y-9Q anti-submarine aircraft. The aircraft is capable of carrying up to four torpedoes in the internal bomb bay.

This pathetic, thinly veiled attempt at promoting OP's merch and his shit YouTube channel for that sweet, sweet ads revenue

Get an actual job dumdum

We have four 056 variants (C13B), Thanks! :enjoy:

These are equipped with Type 87 ASW rocket launchers. Bow mounted sonar could not be fitted due to strong Indian opposition, but I am guessing advanced towed-array sonar (and electronics) will be added at some point to these.

Maybe we should get four more as well, four are not sufficient to patrol our waters....

Once Bangladesh govt. changes next year which is currently in power (strongly pro-Indian) then proper arms and offensive weapons can be acquired.

Because of the large number of warships being commissioned in a short period of time, we lacked enough qualified naval officers and enlisted men.

So all these type 056 have been decommissioned to join the Marine Police formation, even though they all only served for a few years.

There are no corvettes in service in the Chinese Navy right now.

China's lightest active frigate is type 054A.

These were commissioned to fight in a shallow seas littoral scenario, and the US also commissioned their same counterparts in response.

Are you then saying that littoral fighting scenario is obsolete now? If not what would be (if at all) the replacement for 056's?

I am guessing what you mean by "Marine Police formation" is the Coast Guard in China?

This may be a golden opportunity for Bangladesh Navy to get a few more refurbished hulls as we are largely a brown water littoral navy.

That is - if the PLAN (or the Marine Police) are willing to let go of a few.

We'd like to keep them, but we're short of naval officers, very, very short.

We have been commissioning more than 170,000 tons of new warships every year for the last few years. In 2012, the total tonnage of the Chinese Navy was 970,000 tons. in 2022, the total tonnage of the Chinese Navy was 2.4 million tons. We need those type 056 officers to go to the type 052D and type 055.

now these type 056's are piloted by the Marine Police and it's job now is to expel Vietnamese and Japanese fishing boats.

BTW: The total tonnage of the U.S. Navy is 3.7 million tons.

Wow - big changes to superstructure to handle Coast Guard role. As expected.

Understood about the Naval officer shortage, takes a long time to train/groom Naval personnel in numbers.

These are our C13B's.

It is a good ship and Chinese military fans love it. When the Chinese navy solves the officer shortage problem, we might see the type 056 return.

Yes we love these as well. :-)

Probably the most modern corvette in our Navy. Very sophisticated and practical design with low radar signature.

Would look even better with an integrated/modern mast.

We might end up building some locally w/ToT from Wuchang.
