China offers counter-terrorism system to Pakistan

BEIJING: China has offered counter-terrorism system to Pakistan to curb terrorism.

Prime Minister Syed Yusuf Raza Gilani met four delegations of different Chinese companies. According to senior journalist Hanif Khalid, currently in Beijing, foreign secretary Salman Bashir and federal secretary information told journalists that both the countries have decided to boost cooperation in defence sector. China will manufacture satellite Pak Sat -1R for Pakistan and its ground station will be in Lahore.

China has offered Pakistan high-tech counter-terrorism system and said China will also provide equipments needed for defence, security and anti-terrorism.

Prime Minister at this occasion asked China to provide assistance. China Development Bank and other Chinese institutions will provide funds in this connection. Premier Gilani stressed greater cooperation in defence and strategic coalition between the two countries.

some updates

BEIJING: Pakistan and China on Thursday signed two agreements and Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs) on Space concessional loan, space technology and alternative energy.

Prime Minister Syed Yusuf Raza Gilani witnessed the signing ceremonies as the respective officials of the companies inked the documents.

The concessional loan agreement for PAKSAT was signed between Pakistan's Economic Affairs Division and Export Import Bank of China.

Under the agreement, China will provide an amount of US$ 190million for the supply of PAKSAT-1R which will replace the PAKSAT-1 that has a lifespan till 2011. The loan will cover 85 percent of the cost of the project.

Another agreement was signed between Pakistan Space and Upper Atmosphere Research Commission (SUPARCO) and China Great Wall Industry Corporation for Pakistan-1R Satellite Ground Control Segment.

The Ground Control Segment will comprise the establishment of stations at Lahore and Karachi. The stations will be used to monitor the satellite and control its operation for the duration of its 15-year life.

Pakistan's Alternative Energy Board signed MoUs with China's Wuxi SUNTECH Power Company and China Electric Equipment Group Solar Energy Research Institute Co. Ltd (CEEG SI) respectively for cooperation in the field of alternate energy projects in Pakistan.

Both SUNTECH and CEEG SI are major Chinese companies in the field of alternative energy and involved in several projects both in China and abroad. The two companies are interested in undertaking alternate energy projects in Pakistan to help overcome the power crisis in the country.

We should not look at every thing from this perspective.The action against Muslims was not because they were Muslims but due to other reasons.China is a secular country.India will be dealt with in Afghanistan once NATO withdraws.We should not let the water reach boiling limit.

China obviously has very important strategic interest in Pakistan. Chinese Muslims issues have been there as far as I know for more than 200 years, I think each and everytime they want to get their independence in China. And China never invaded a Muslim country in history, it is one of the reason Saudis feel more confident to work with China than other countries (I think Saudis was probably referring to US)

China's non-willing to cross any limits is exactly the reason why Pak's situation is so difficult today. Had Pak invited Chinese to station troops (As a matter of fact, Mushraf even urged China do not have reservations to send in troops to help protect Pakistan should it be in danger), and China is willing to cross that boundaries, there would be no suspense today in Pak, I've heard Mushraf was threatened by bombing Pak to stone age should Pak not cooperate with WOT. At that time, Taliban is not that of a big conern to Pak.

When riots starts in a country the govt of that country will do anything to stop that. And what China did was nothing more than a govt act to stop violence.
China is a true friend of Pakistan. At least better than others.
