Federal government is weighing options to launch a targeted operation against those involved in killings of Hazaras in Quetta, sources said on Monday. The president called Balochistan Governor Nawab Zulfiqar Ali Magsi and inquired about the situation in the province in the wake of the Saturday bombing in Quetta and the steps taken by the provincial government to apprehend culprits.

He asked him to take all necessary measures for the security of Hazaras and facilitate the victims and their families. Sources told TheNation that President Zardari asked the governor to seek help from the Pakistan Army, if necessary. Sources said that the president directed the provincial governor to order an immediate action against those nominated by the elders of Hazara community.

"There are three localities including Akhrottabad in Quetta where the alleged culprits are said to be residing and the provincial government should immediately arrest them", sources quoted President Zardari as telling the governor.

However, some sources said that the govt was indecisive about its strategy to handle the situation and was just trying to gain time until the installation of a caretaker govt. They said that the PPP-led coalition was shying away from taking action against the alleged perpetrators for fear of serious reaction that could lead to more sectarian violence in the country, delaying the general elections.

"God forbid if such incidents continue unabated and sectarian violence spreads to other provinces, elections would be delayed", a source said, adding that the coalition should immediately take appropriate steps. However, sources in the coalition said that the government was weighing option to tackle the situation in Quetta. "The federal is in contact with the provincial government to work out an effective operational plan against the culprits", sources added.

They dismissed the notion that government was avoiding taking a decisive action against the killers of Hazaras. The president and prime minister assigned the Balochistan governor to go offensive against the culprits without any delay, the said.

some steps have to be taken, hope no one does a blunder.

Unless the head of snake is not chopped off and drastic reforms on state level are not taken, such operations will be of now use. For every ****** killed there are tens others being prepared in madrassash!

In that way, if things go south, the PPP government in the center will not be responsible, should things go south, the army can take the blame - as it should - it allowed this situation to arise in the first place.

Everywhere in the world the armed forces assist the government, in Pakistan, the armed forces think the government should be assisting it, as if it were some sort political stake holder.

While the uniformed politicians play political games with the government - the peole of Pakistan continue to suffer, the Pakistani state becomes weaker, and society fragments further.

"It's unfair" the uniformed holy cows bleat, and they are right, but that's the job, either do it, or go home, without the plots, the pensions, the medical benefits!

why all the Central & State Industries heads from armed forces?

Qns:-In Pak there is no services like IAS as we have in india?

Quetta bombing: Operation should have been conducted against LeJ, says CJ

ISLAMABAD: Chief Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry remarked that an operation cleanup should have been conducted against the Lashkar-e-Jhangvi (LeJ), while hearing the Quetta bombing case on Tuesday, reported Express News.

The chief justice said that it is incomprehensible how the incident took place in the presence of the Frontier Corps.

The chief justice maintained that the intelligence agencies have failed in providing security information. He further questioned why LeJ members have not been arrested yet.

The Supreme Court had taken a suo motu notice of the incident on Monday and had issued notices to Balochistan Advocate General, Muhammad Abdullah Khan Kakar and the Attorney General of Pakistan.

On Sunday, more than 80 people were killed in a bomb blast at a busy market in Quetta, most of them belonging to the Hazara Shia community. Banned terror outfit Lashkar-e-Jhangvi had claimed responsibility for the blast.

The operation must be a collaborative one between the Armed Forces and the civilian security forces. We absolutely must involve the Police and train and equip them to handle these situations. These guys are a malignant cancer; removing the tumour is only a short term strategy we must strenghten our killer T-Cells to be on the prowl for possible cancerous cells before they become another tumour.

Operation to continue till arrest of LJ leadership

ISLAMABAD: The federal government announced on Wednesday that the operation launched against the Lashkar-i-Jhangvi (LJ) would continue till the arrest of its entire leadership.

Briefing reporters after a meting of the federal cabinet, Information Minister Qamar Zaman Kaira said all law-enforcement agencies were participating in the operation which had led to the killing of four LJ members and arrest of 170 people allegedly involved in carrying out attacks on Hazara Shias.

“We assure everybody in the country that the government will take the ongoing operation to its logical conclusion,” he said.

Defending the Balochistan government which has been under Zulfiqar Magsi since the imposition of governor’s rule on Jan 14, Kaira said the federal government was satisfied with his performance and would keep on supporting him.

He rejected a perception that the army and the government were not on the same page on security measures taken for the Hazara community in Quetta. “The army is part of the government and we can use it whenever a need arises.”

When asked that the army was ready to deploy its troops but the government had resisted the move, Mr Kaira said if tomorrow the province wanted army’s deployment it could do it under the Constitution.

“Yes, in the past institutions used to act on their own, but now things are different and all of us are trying to work within a framework laid down in the Constitution,” he said.
