New Delhi: CBI has carried out searches at the residence of its own officer in connection with alleged bribe case involving a former Research and Analysis Wing (RAW) officer who has been arrested by the agency last month.
The agency teams carried out searches at the residence of its own Superintendent of Police from where cash of Rs 5 lakh, three mobile phone and scanned copies of some cheques have been recovered, the sources said.
They said the agency is examining the case and action will be taken only after detailed analysis as the name of the officer was taken by the former RAW officer who has been arrested by CBI last month.
CBI has not named the SP in the FIR in which former RAW Officer Nirvikar Singh was arrested. Sources said the role of the officer is yet to be established in the case.
The agency had arrested a former Research and Analysis Wing (RAW) officer Nirvikar Singh for allegedly taking a bribe from a businessman on promise to settle a disproportionate assets case against him.
The ex-RAW officer had cited his purported links with the SP-ranked officer in the agency, which was probing the case.
The businessman was also arrested, they said.
Agency sources said that Nirvikar Singh, former Aide-de-camp (ADC) of former Governor of Punjab, who was also facing CBI probe in disproportionate assets case was arrested with businessman Bhupinder Singh for allegedly receiving bribe of Rs 15 lakh on behalf of the SP-ranked officer of CBI.
The sources said that Singh had told Bhupinder that he could settle an ongoing case against him using his contacts with a Superintendent of Police in CBI and had demanded Rs 30 lakh for the same.
They said they were nabbed from posh Khan market while first installment of Rs 15 lakh of the alleged bribe was being exchanged.
Nirvikar Singh, who held the rank of Major in the Army, had become ADC to Punjab Governor in 2005. He later joined RAW as Under Secretary but his tenure was cut short after CBI registered a case against him.
