A balanced diet is key for a healthy lifestyle. That includes not only eating right but eating at the right times too. You may have heard the saying, “Eat breakfast like a king, lunch like a prince, and dinner like a pauper” by well-known American author and nutritionist Adelle Davis? It holds true for all of us, especially working men and women.

“Meal timings are more important than the meal we eat,” Pinkvilla quoted Indian nutritionist Sonia Bakshi, as saying. “Our body gets used to eating food at a certain times daily. If deprived of food at that time, it starts storing fat because it needs more energy to perform various activities,” she explained.

The first meal of the day is breakfast, which should ideally be consumed within two hours of waking up, usually between 8 am to 10 am. Youngsters these days tend to skip breakfast due to busy work schedules which has led to a steep rise in obesity, diabetes and other sedentary diseases. “All those who skip breakfast can never lose weight or be healthy because their body is performing all its activities in starvation mode,” Bakshi added.

With fluctuating shifts, there doesn’t seem to be a ‘right’ time for lunch and dinner. Any food containing at least 210 calories is considered a meal; below that is counted as a snack. “The body adapts to meal timings,” Ritika Samaddar, a dietician said. “It is not at all a need to follow a particular timeline but certain key points must be kept in mind.”

She continued, “After waking up, a person should eat within two to three hours for better insulin sensitivity. Eat your dinner early so that the food is well digested before you sleep. Follow a two-to-four hour meal pattern to get a constant source of energy. The quality of food is equally important.” Therefore, plan your meals in advance and make sure it adheres to a 10-12 hour timeframe, according to your body clock.

I never have breakfast. I have a light lunch about 3:00 pm or later [indeed try push it further] and only after having done at least 15 minutes of cardio workout. Then dinner about 9.00 Pm. The reason I abstain from when I wake up is to force the body to use fat stores as supply for energy. And to supress hunger.

I would never go by what a Ganghoo says. Most Indians are skinny but have ugly pot bellies. Worse physiques on earth.

I skip breakfast and lunch cause of busy life and I can assure you it has been devastating. Was fine and in shape before I started to do that. Now I'm getting chubby for no apprent reason.

Who has the time for that?

Didnt read ... my 2 cents from personal experience late eating can land one into serious digestive problems .. & its hell your life will be a nightmare after that avoid that

. . .
I have for trhe last 30 years. And despite some problems I reckon I am fitter and leaner thenb 90% of my age cohort.
But these teenagers need to be strong and need energy at this age and breakfast is what proves to be the base of the day. Breakfast serves as petrol for the youngsters .
I become weak if I skip breakfast for two days so do my other fellows .
We should not ignore the importance of breakfast to humans . Those complaining getting chubby due to breakfast need to concentrate on their exercise .

This is only applicable if when you wake up you will be doing heavy physical work. This is rarely the case these days. a healthy body should be able to sustain itself on stored fat ~ which most people have too much off. The problem is people habituate their bodies to feed off carbos they eat. This leaves fat to remain behind and all too often most people eat in surplus so they actually aggregate fat.
