Calling all experts on Hinduism

I know religious discussions are banned but just wanted some credible information on Hinduism. For the past few months I've been researching on Buddhism and it really gives me inner peace but now I'm also curious on Hinduism. I respect and admire Buddhism because unlike the Abrahamic religions, it is not judgmental. And I'm also a very strong believer of karma. I believe Ancient Hinduism is somewhat like Buddhism so I wanted some credible links on it. Also does Hinduism completely forbid the consumption of meat including cow meat? I know in Buddhism you can eat meat if the animal was not specifically killed for you. Thanks!
