In an effort to reach out to minorities ahead of 2014 General Elections, BJP President Rajnath Singh on Saturday appealed to Muslims to forget or ignore the 2002 post-Godhra riots.

"There may have been some incidents but can we not ignore them now? It shouldn't be tied to BJP forever. Incidents have been happening and 13,000 communal riots took place in the country before 2002. Rajasthan has seen the regime of Bhairo Singh Shekhawat and Vasundhara Raje but there had been no discrimination against minorities," Singh said at function organised by a local TV channel here.

"I want to build confidence among you (Muslims) that there is no difference in our words and deeds. British ruled with 'divide and rule' policy, but after 66 years of independence governments could not bridge the gap between Hindus and Muslims," the Bharatiya Janata Party leader said at seminar on 'issues before minorities' organised by ETV.

He even said they can always approach him if the community faces any discrimination in the BJP-ruled states. "If you find any discrimination with the community in any of the BJP-ruled states, come to me with your complaint or write to me; I will reply and try to solve the problem," Singh added.

Singh also underlined the importance of paying respect to each other saying,"This was important in order to make the country and society sensible."
He also said that the party was not doing politics to gain power. "We are trying to touch your hearts by love and affection and not by sense of fear. We want to build confidence among you," he said.

However, when Singh was leaving after addressing the function he was aggressively challenged by Rajasthan Minority Commission Chairman Mahir Azad to explain why "discrimination against Muslims prevailed in Gujarat". However, Singh did not react and left the venue.

"You asked Muslims to write to you about discrimination in BJP-ruled states, but why you are not saying about Gujarat. Why discrimination was there in Gujarat? Students from the minority community are deprived of scholarship. Fund for minority welfare and development allocated by the Centre is not being utilised for years. You should clarify this to people here," Azad said.
Later, BJP minority cell's state president Amin Pathan went up to the dais to counter Azad's allegations, but he had to face resistance and mike was snatched from him.

BJP spokesperson Shahnawaz Hussain, who was accompanying Singh, told reporters that the allegations levelled by Azad were baseless and Azad was doing politics on a wrong occasion.

Weren't these BJP clowns supposed to build a Ram Mandir in Ayodhya? What happened to that. Hope no one votes for these clowns, just like Congress they are filled with empty promises and no action. We need a 3rd party mainstream party in India, it seems...

No idea, ideally for me the third party would have the following characteristics:
- Economy focused, most important aspect
- Not corrupt
- Believes in secularism, not the communal secularism of BJP or the appeasement secularism of Congress
- Emphasizes, nurtures and flourishes the cultural religious roots of this land

However, finding a political party with these characteristics is easier said than done...

I am sure you are not talking about 3rd front!! 3rd front is actually a combination of monkeys like Mayawati, Mulayam,Didi, communists etc. They all oppose each other among them and will destroy India if got power!! We must choose the best among what is available now till we have a good option and I ain't seeing that in near future.

......for a minute I thought you are talking about Shri. Narendra Modi.

Then I realized you ARE talking about Narendra Modi except that you want someone like him who is not in the BJP.

Meanwhile ...... some truly secular christians from kerala join the BJP and are part of NaMo Fan club...

Narendra Modi will turn down US visa once he becomes PM: KJ Alphons

His visiting card reads: ‘KJ Alphons IAS (resigned) Ex-MLA and Member – National Executive BJP’. But Alphons Kannanthanam is better known for the work he did during his tenure as an IAS officer. On his deputation to Delhi as head of Delhi Development Authority (DDA), Alphons had demolished 14,310 illegal mansions in New Delhi. He is the man who gave India her first 100% literate town – Kottayam, Kerala – in 1989. This event had triggered the national literacy movement in India.

....“One needs courage to dream and do the right thing. As commissioner of DDA, I demolished 14,310 illegal buildings and reclaimed land worth Rs10,000 crore,” said Alphons.

He also talked of corruption in bureaucracy. “I never used to call myself a civil servant. I was a member of the civil services. I cannot be anybody’s servant, except for being the servant of the people,” said Alphons. “Everybody in the government says that the system has gone wrong, but I used to say I’m the system and I’ll set it right.”

...KJ Alphons resigned from IAS, contested polls in 2006 and became an MLA. He joined BJP in 2011 and today, he is member of its national executive. ........

A question regarding US’s refusal of visa to CM Narendra Modi came up when Alphons was talking to participants from California Institute of Tech were present.

“I was in the US to have breakfast with the president and a dozen senators too were there. I told them, ‘You think your visa is a very big thing? A lot of Indians get that.’ But I said ‘if you wouldn’t grant him (Modi) visa now, he will decline your request (if you make one) when he will become the prime minister, which I think he is certainly going to be’.”

He went on to say: “He is a man with lot of dignity and that (refusal of visa) is bad for India and US because we are the largest democracy in the world.”

A proper apology from Modi and monetary reprimandation for the loss of life and suffering by the families can only make the muslims forget about the past. India is a capitalist society after all.

This BJP is a xenophobic brahmin thug.....such idiotic can only be made by such biggots...I hope someone rapes his daughter in front of him and asks him to forget about it :)

Your pervert fantasies of rape not withstanding, if Modi is guilty of killing muslims he should be hanged ...... how can a mere apology be sufficient for murder of Indians ? On the other hand since SIT has proved Modi's innocent and has exposed congress plan to polarize Indian society, there is no need for Modi to apologize for anything.

In fact his integrity comes out on his consistent stand on 2002 riots.

Good to see Bangladeshi's consider Modi a Brahmins......... I guess as compared to BD every Indian would seem like a Brahmin. :P
