Why would anyone join the MQM after its 20+ years of violence. That is one party that should actually be banned.
In 1984 MQM was formed. From 1985-1990 3000+ people were killed in Karachi. This parties violent policies have seriously shown how pathetically we Karachites vote.

I think all of this is part of ethnic politics. Sindhis will keep voting PPP, Muhajirs the MQM and Punjabis the PMLN. Its a sad reality in our country. We are far from the point of understanding each other. Our living room discussions only consist of abuse to other ethnic groups.

I have seen it in my own khandaan. Its worrying.
Instead of living with each other with respect we all are prone to demanding more and more rights. For urdu speakers it doesn't even make sense, because urdu has primacy and are the richest ethnic group earning 13,000 Ruppees more than the second highest ethnic group. But we all want more and more.

In India the army consists 15% of punjabis while barely 2% of the total Indian population is from Punjab. No one complains about them dominating the army. Here we are at each others throats. I hope the ethnic mindset disappears in Pakistan.

I thought he was always MQM leader as he always has been MQM sympathiser?

Which party did he leave? Could be Musharraf's party in that case

he had already left musharraf's party even before elections

and was MQM sympathiser long ago

I personally avoid criticising other parties for pointless debate but this person is a very rude person and even swore on the TV channel. Not a good choice to have in any political party in my opinion. Not a good politician in my opinion

The MQM has changed over time a bit. Recent interactions with their cadre showed a high percentage of Sindhi and Baloch members in the Party..So there is an effort to break away from the "Muhajir" exclusivity. That being said, it remains a card(albiet if less effective) for them to play.
Here however, is a case that has less to do with the ethnic issue and more to do with the ties MQM had to Musharraf. It seemed logical for Musharraf supporters(knowing their party is in the doldrums and possibly finished) to find new ground for the political ambitions and as such MQM is the best choice.

in my opinion he is a very ideological guy and i think great addition to the party like MQM where ideological people rule

if politics mean making people fool to get few votes then politics is a bad thing

he swore at the anti pakistani baloch leaders and he did the right thing

people accusing MQM to play mohajir card, what about PTI guys like imran ismail who says that lyari weapons were given to massacre mohajirs, or what about PTI MPA who just yesterday said that sindhis and pashtun immigrants who spread drugs in Karachi should be kicked out?

the reality is MQM has most of mohajir vote bank, if they dont address their troubles, they will lose their vote bank

They all do. Accusing MQM of being the sole user of this card is a political tactic and all is fair in politics(possibly more so than in love and war). But the MQM was founded on those principles and most will disagree to this but even with the emergence of PTI.. the MQM is only party that holds the fort when it comes to the voices of this ethnicity in Karachi. There are Sindhi elements who want the Urdu-Speakers thrown out of Karachi, there are Balochi elements to that.. and Pashtun ones.. yet, there are Urdu-Speaking elements who do not allow anyone else to stay or continue business in Karachi. So the battles over ethnic fault-lines in efforts to reap Karachi's potential for themselves continues.

Yeah Nabeel Gabol too joined the MQM. He was a Baloch. Members of varied ethnic backgrounds are indeed joining the MQM but the votebank of the MQM remains primarly muhajirs. Infact I have never heard of nor seen anyone else vote for MQM. Our wider khandaans support to them makes us forgive their crimes and forget things like the murders and bloodshed they have caused. They also ignore that Haider Abbas Rizwi threatened to eat the naukri of a policeman who chalaaned his car.

Support for these parties, party's like the MQM, ANP and BSO I believe are part of a fundamental problem in the psyche of Pakistanis. According Stephen P Cohen's book and a survey from youth preferences in Pakistan 86% of Pakistanis believe their sect or ethnicity is more important than the Pakistani identity. I speak here of a wider problem than simply this event.

In India no one even cares. Punjabis make up 15% of the Indian army when they are less than 2% of the total Indian population. How many times have you seen an Indian ask why is our army made of Punjabis. Here we ask the same question often even though Punjabis comprise 47% of the population so they will make a natural majority. We are way to divided. We have everything from the primacy of urdu to a higher gdp per capita yet we want more. In 1947 Sindhis made up 60% of Karachis population. Today they are about 8%. Muhajirs are at 40% today. So we took Karachi and didn't even say thank you in return to the ones who vacated their houses for our families to live there.

MQM is trying its best, I must admit, to ensure that it is seems more and more as a National party, but again its votebank remains the same. Even in the ANP the trends are similar. The bilour brothers are hindkowans, not Pashtuns yet Hinko speakers overwhelmingly voted against the ANP, not only that, were against the renaming of Frontier province to Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. So anyway usually people of varying ethnic backgrounds do find their way in these political parties.

I believe that W11 might not have been voting for MQM if he was born somewhere else and a Pashtun might not have been voting for ANP had he been born elsewhere. I think I escaped because I tried to adopt Pashtun culture yet was born to a so-called muhajir family. I have seen the conversations in my living room and have sought to break free of the usual trend. I don't know how successful I have been but have been opposed to ethnic politics ever since.

if that was the case then my area didn't had pashtun naan waala etc, if MQM wanted division on ethnic lines then all MQM areas(all well developed areas of Karachi) had been mohajir only, that's not the case, mohajir areas are the most ethnic tolerant and multi ethnic Pakistan has to offer

sir these people have no ideologies,,,,,,money is everything for them,,,,,,the other guy fawad choudri also left apml,,,he is not even a barister but he used to come on tv with the name barister added,,,now this guy,,,,these people are after money and want to appear on tv

this guy must be feeling left out after watching fawad chodri appear on tv daily representing PPP,,,so he decided to join MQM,,,,,,,

both of these were unknowns and they joined musharaf just to come in lime light,

first they had under consideration the haram dollars musharaf earned by selling his people,,,,now fawad chodri must be having his eyes on haram ka money bilawal and zardari has,,,,or he might be interested in free lodging at sindh govt hostels
this is their life,,,this is how they operate and this is what they are all about,,,,,,,
if you still watch them, listen to them and vote for them,,,,then you are a goof man.

barister saif might be having his eyes on haram kai pounds altaf has in his home and since he is a barister also and can appear in english courts he might have this under consideration before deciding to join MQM,

after all these political parties are always after such people who can defend their baigharati on tv by speaking loudly.

@batmannow

@batmannow knows he is on the wrong track, he also needs to support MQM, one day he will come to the path of enlightment

anyways he left APML ages ago, i thought he was still lurking around there

i think musharraf is the guy who brought people like saif, marvi memon, shaukat aziz etc and other good people to the lime light, so mush has the ability to make genuine talented people leaders, if he enters politics he will do it again
