Women empowerment is a must for the overall development of a country in the world.Considering this valuable concept, one can be surprised to see the momentum of women empowerment in Bangladesh.

Bangladesh in recent years has attained a great progress in the field of women empowerment even being a developing country possessing women as half of its population. For the real development of Bangladesh, the pre-condition is development of the women folk in the country. The involvement of women in social and business arena has increased significantly, which is quite evident now-a-days.Bangladeshi women are now playing major roles in different sectors with tremendous success. In recent days, there is no area or sector in Bangladesh where women are not present. Bangladeshi women are also working worldwide. From SME (small and medium enterprises) to the leading position, women are everywhere though empowering women in Bangladesh is really a toughtask as it is a patriarchal (male-dominated) society. The present Government of Bangladesh led by Prime Minister Sheikh Hsaina has been highly praised worldwide for improving the live-style of the poor, particularly the women folk. It has been recognized by the UN as being one of the few countries that is on track and has made a 'remarkable progress' towards achieving its Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) by 2015. According to the "Global Gender Gap report 2012 by World Economic Forum" Bangladesh has been ranked 8th globally in terms of political empowerment of women due to currentgovernment's pro-women policies. The Sixth Five Year Plan (2011-2015) of present government, which is middle-term national development plan, committed to transforming Bangladesh into a middle-income country by 2021 (also known as Vision 2021), considers women's participation in political and economic activities as a cross-cutting issue with women's empowerment as one of the main drivers of transformation. The government was committed to attaining the MDGs 2015 in gender equality and empowering women as well as implementing the Convention on the Elimination of all forms of Discrimination against Women (CEDAW) and the Beijing Platform for Action.

In the case of women education, present government has achieved tremendous success. Bangladesh was the first country in South Asia to achieve gender-parity in primary education. Primary education is compulsory and free for all children - aged between age 6 and 10.In primary schools, female enrolment is now 51% and in secondary it is 53%, while male is 47 percent, a sharp departure from even just a few years ago when male percentage was 65% and female 35%. In the event of higher education the percentage of female students has increased significantly.Child marriage, sexual harassment against women, dowry problem, gender discrimination and all kinds of violence against women has decreased for the present government's strong women policy and its implementation.

In order to enhance women's empowerment, the number of seats - reserved for women - in the National Parliament has been increased to 50. There has been a sharp increase in the number of women parliamentarians elected (20% of total seats) in the last national election. To create opportunities for women's increased participation in politics, reserved seats for women in union council, Upazila Parishad and municipality have been increased to one-third of the total seats and women are to be directly elected to those ones. More than 12,000 women were elected as public representatives in the last round of local government elections. Women's participation in local-level elections was perhaps one of the milestones for Bangladesh (CRI).
Women's participation in administration has been increasing quickly. In our country appointment of women judge was unlawful till 1975,while at present out of 60 judges two are women in the Supreme Court of Bangladesh. Not only was that, in BCS (General) a woman appointed first in 1989, and another in administration in 2000. In the Police Service a woman was appointed as police super few years ago. Women have been recently appointed inthe Armed Force's Medical Core. At present in Bangladesh, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, Leader of the Opposition Rawshan Ershad, former Pime Minister and leader of Bangladesh Nationalist Party Begum Khaleda Zia, Speaker and Deputy Leader of the House are all women. Theincreasing number of women participationsin upper courts, administration, defense and UN peacekeeping mission indicates the power generation of women in country. This has been possible due to a reserve quota created by Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina's government for women's employment at every level of administration to increase their participation in government jobs. The role of women in the UN (United Nations) Peacekeeping family is also remarkable. Bangladesh is now the top contributor of female police officers to the United Nations Peacekeeping Operations. Bangladesh female peacekeepers have placed themselves as key driving force to reduce gender-based violence, conflict and confrontation, providing sense of security, especially for women and children in the host country. Thus they are being empowered in the outer world. Presently 190 female officers from Bangladesh are working in different peace keeping missions around the world.
The prime minister has made an example in the case of women empowerment in the world and has got laudable recognitionsfor her bold activities.US Secretary of State's Ambassador-at-Large for Global Woman's Issues, Meanne Verveer during her visit to Bangladesh hadpraised Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina as a glittering global example of women's empowerment. UN awarded her for MDG achievement in June 13, 2013. Very recently she has achieved the Champions of the Earth Award. Her untiring and relentless efforts are leading the women of Bangladesh towards a good future. She is an inspiration for the women of Bangladesh in women leadership. But this practice must not be stopped. When it is goodnews that women are coming out of their regular typical jobs at home, it is also true that many of women are still lagging behind. Despite all these initiatives to protect and improve women's life, unfortunately not all of them come under this coverage. Government, non-government organizations as well as the NGOs must not stop their steps which were taken for the development of the women folk. There are still some superstitions in society centering the women empowerment. These false notions should be demolished for the overall development of women. Society will have to come forward in the development of women. Instead of teasing women, people including family members should encourage them to work outside. If the female children get full support from their respective families, they can definitely make great success.
If we remember the saying of Napoleon:"Give me an educated mother, I shall promise you the birth of a civilized, educated nation." At present, we need the implementation of his speech in Bangladesh. Indeed, an educated mother should bedeveloped from all sides. If girls become educated they will be conscious about their rights. Then they will be able to lead their children's life inthe right way. A major study by Harvard University, published by the Economist, shows the daughters of working mothers enjoy better careers, higher pay and more equal relationships than those who raised by stay-at-home mothers. Asset and resource ownership helps women's empowerment as it gives them power to make decisions about the use and management of those specific assets and resources. And it is the expectation that the government will pay more constructive attention to ensure the property rights of women. However, studying the overall scenario, it is Bangladesh which has undoubtedly received the leadership character of establishing the women empowerment in the global map.

Yet I see many Bangladeshi posters abusing her all the time. Strange indeed.

Shameless propaganda.

If the forum has decided to go full anti Pakistan and full anti Pakistan Army, it should let people know of their policy.
