ISLAMABAD Federal Minister for Finance and Economic Affairs, Dr. Abdul Hafeez Shaikh has said that the automobile sector is contributing 1.5 per cent to total Federal Board of Revenues collection and is major source of employment in the country.He said this while addressing as a chief guest at the ceremony held on completion of production of 500,000 vehicles by Indus Motors Company (IMC) Limited in Karachi. Speaking on the occasion, Dr.Hafeez Shaikh congratulated the IMC and stated that impressive progress by Indus Motors Company has made it a flagship company in the countys automobile sector and IMC is a key asset in nations vibrant auto industry. The Federal Minister further stated that the automobile sector is contributing 1.5 per cent to total Federal Board of Revenues collection and is major source of employment in the country. The efficiency and productivity of this sector should be enhanced in larger interest of the country, he further added. The Finance Minister extended full support from government side and assured that for promotion of the automobile sector, every possible steps will be taken.The said event started with ribbon cutting ceremony performed at the Indus Motors Plant by the Honorable Chief Guest Dr. Abdul Hafeez Shaikh. Yukitorhi Fono, Executive vice President, Toyota Motor Corporation Japan and Mr. Junro Shimiru, Chairman Toyota Motors Indus Company were also present at the occasion.Mr. Funo, Executive vice President, Toyota Motors Corporation Pakistan and Ali S. Habib, Chairman IMC thanked the Federal Minister for his presence and support.
