It was more or less a home coming to Australia’s High Commissioner to India, Peter N. Varghese, to visit his ancestral home of Njoozhumuriyil house at Mallappally on Sunday.

Mr Varghese, son of Prof Njoozhumuriyil Varghese and Annamma, had reached Mallappally on a courtesy visit to his ancestral home there in the forenoon.

Mr Joseph M. Puthussery, former MLA, and Joseph Emmanuel, Njoozhumuriyil family trust secretary, received him on his arrival. He had spent nearly half-an-hour there and Mr Emmanuel presented him with a family history book on the occasion.

Parents of Mr Varghese had migrated to Kenya way back in 1943 and from there to Australia in 1964. Mr Varghese had his graduation in History from the University of Queensland in Australia and had joined the Australian Foreign Service in 1979.

Mr Varghese was a Deputy Secretary of the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade in Australia and had also served as the Australian High Commissioner to Malaysia, and senior advisor to the Australian Prime Minister, earlier. He is married to Ms Margarette, an Australian.

Mr Varghese came to India as the Australian High Commissioner in June, 2009.
