a terracotta plague scientifically dated from 1600 BC to 300 BC was in the possession of an art dealer who verified the date from an institute. even if we accept the lower limit of 300 BC, still earliest depiction of art in historical india provided this artifact is authentic.
Patna plaque 3rd century BC
This Terracotta plaque is from Patana Museum. 8570. 3rd century BCE. Diameter ; 3-I".
It shows a warrior standing in chariot drawn by four horses. He wears a coat of mail and a quiver and shoots an arrow from a bow. The charioteer on his right holds with the left hand the reins of the four horses and with the right a long staff; a bird is perched behind the chariot. Ball-shaped tassels (?) hang from the chariot and from the harness of the horse. Flat diagonally streaked rim; a hole to left of Surya’s head-dress.
The back of the plaque is impressed with two concentric rings, the outer with crescent shape, the inner with deeply holed dots, set zigzag; the central circle with an indistinct floral pattern.
