SRINAGAR: An Army jawan was on Saturday killed and another injured when militants opened fire on them from point blank range in highway town of Pampore in south Kashmir, police said.

This was the third such shooting incident in south Kashmir during the past five days.

The soldiers were withdrawing money from an ATM at Kadalbal, 16 kms from here, on Srinagar-Jammu national highway when the ultras armed with pistols targetted them around 3.10pm, they said.

Sepoy Deepak Kumar died on way to hospital after being hit by a bullet in the neck, while his colleague was undergoing treatment.

The ultras fled immediately after the shooting which sparked off panic in the busy town, the police said adding a hunt has been launched to nab them.

No militant outfit has so far claimed responsibility for the attack.

On July 3, militants shot dead two policemen from point blank range in separate attacks at Rajpora chowk in Pulwama and Yaripora in Kulgam district.

LeT claims responsibility of Pampore attack

Srinagar, July 7 (KNS): Lashker-e-Toiba has claimed responsibility for all the three incidents that took place over last 4 days in south Kashmir including the Pampore attack.

One army trooper was killed and another injured in an attack carried out by militants in Pampore today afternoon.

A patrolling party on 50 Rastriya Rifles came under attack, when militants indiscriminately fired upon the troopers near an ATM booth at Kadlabal Chowk in Pampore. One army personnel Deepak Singh received bullet injuries in head and died on the spot while another trooper Triloki Nath sustained bullet injuries in his jaw.

The injured trooper was shifted to Sub District Hospital Pampore, where doctors after treatment referred him to Army hospital Srinagar, where his condition is stated to be critical.

According to police sources, militants fled from the spot along with a rifle snatched from the deceased trooper.

Meanwhile tension gripped entire Pampore town following the firing incident, while police and CRPF cordoned off the area and intensified vigil to nab the attackers.Pertinently, two police men were earlier killed in two separate incidents of firing at Pulwama and Kulgam on July 3.

Meanwhile, Lashker-e-Toiba has claimed responsibility for all the three incidents that took place over last 4 days in south Kashmir including the Pampore attack. Spokesperson of LeT Dr Abdullah Gaznavi in a telephonic statement to KNS quoted Chief operations commander Mehmood Shah of having claimed the responsibility for the attack. “Apart from killing the troopers, we have also snatched a rifle”, he said.The spokesperson also claimed responsibility for attacks carried out at Pulwama and Kulgam on July 3, where two policemen were killed and a rifle was also snatched from the deceased cop at Yaripora in Kulgam.
