The Russian Defense Ministry has for the first time fully revealed the new Armata tank in a series of photographs published on its website in the run-up to the Victory Day parade in Moscow.

All the previous images obtained by the media showed T-14Armata with its turret draped in protective canvas. Now, the Defense Ministry has published images of the tank, as well as several other new armored vehicles, in high definition, accompanied with brief descriptions, for anyone to view and download.

Armata is actually a tracked platform capable of hosting a tank, APC, artillery piece and missile launcher. The Armata medium tank is a cutting-edge vehicle with an unmanned turret armed with a brand new 125 mm smoothbore cannon, which is the most powerful gun of its kind to date in terms of muzzle energy.

A crew of two can operate the tank. It is fully computerized and equipped with a wide variety of sensors and other electronic systems that allow for network-centric warfare.

Armata will be taking part in the grand Victory Day Parade in Moscow on May 9, marking the 70th anniversary of the Soviet Union's victory over Nazi Germany. A total of 194 armored vehicles will participate in the event, ranging from the cutting-edge to historic pieces. The Russian Air Force will be represented by 143 aircraft.

As the Victory Day celebrations draw near across Russia, take a look at our special project detailing the Soviet Union's fight against Nazism during World War II.

There is no excuse for ignorance, yes sure they "copied" Israel, by having a tank with a 3 man crew while the Merkava used a 4 man crew. By having an unmanned turret while the Merkava uses a manned turret, by having an autoloader while the Merkava has a human loader. By using a 125mm gun while the Merkava uses a 120mm gun, By having a rear engine while the Merkava has a front engine. By having a 7 wheeled platform while the Merkava uses 6 wheels.

There is no copying, the concept of basing a APC off of a tank is similar but there is zero copying. Copying something and having a base concept are two totally different things.

The armenia tank sucks , you can stick to your own opinion , history will tell how much it sucks

Did you just realized that you made a fool out of yourself? Quick change the topic to how the Armata sucks...

The only thing that sucks is your intellect. Unless you can of course educate people as to why a tank that has it's crew safely locked in a capsule somehow "sucks". Or how a tank that currently has an active protection system sucks or how a tank that has a gun that reportedly has better performance than even the 120mm Rhenmatall sucks.

I'm no tank expert but to the common sense it is plausible that the armenia tank is inspired by merkava , the fact that they based a heavy APC on the tank only confirms the fact.

Are you serious? The Armata is based on the Merkava? Am i reading this right or are you that....well how do i say it nicely, ignorant?

Again, T-14 3 man crew, Merkava 4 man crew, T-14 autoloader, Merkava human loader, T-14 unmanned turret where everyone is lock in a forward capsule, Merkava manned turret, crew spread out throughout tank, T-14 rear engine, Merkava front engine, T-14 125mm gun, will be upgraded to 152mm, Merkava 120mm gun, T-14 7 wheeled platform, Merkava 6 wheeled platform, T-14 no rear hatch or extra crew compartment, Merkava, rear hatch crew compartment.

The only similarities that the T-14 and Merkava have is that both use tracks, that's it. The two tanks are different in every way.

Curios

So you say that you are not a tank expert and yet say that Russian Tank suck? Seems you are refuting yourself my Iranian friend.

On a separate note, Afghan ANSF would love to have some of those big guns to kick the Talib asses all over the place :P.

I am sure you guys have surplace of T72s, loaning some to Afghan ANSF wont be a bad idea, as we are fighting the Talib and ISIS ideology on behalf of the region, if they get a foothold in Afghanistan, our neighbors especially in central asia will be their next stop.

The Achzarit APC was first created in 1987. Beginning in 1987, some 276 T-55s were rebuilt by removing the turret and constructing a compartment for 10 troops. The bulky Russian diesel engine was replaced by a compact power pack, leaving space for a passageway to a rear exit door. The exterior was covered with reactive armor that defeats RPGs and early ATGMs. Named Achzarit (“Cruel One”) the 48.5 ton vehicle carries four roof-mounted 7.62 mm machine guns.

Similar rebuilds gave new life to hundreds of obsolete IDF Centurion tanks. By the 1980s, as Centurions were replaced by new Israeli-designed Merkava tanks, they were rebuilt as infantry carriers. Weight saved by removing the turret was invested in belly armor to meet the growing mine and IED threat. Weighing 57.3 tons, with a crew of 12 (driver, commander and 10 passengers) and powered by an American 750 hp AVDS-1790-2AC diesel engine, Nagmash’ot (1983) was followed in quick succession by Nagmachon (mid-1980s) and Nakpadon (1990s) with advanced reactive armor and massive side-skirts. Some Nagmachons are fitted with a distinctive non-rotating “doghouse” studded with vision blocks for a forward observer. Puma, not to be confused with a new German infantry fighting vehicle (IFV) of the same name, is a combat engineer vehicle that is also built on the Centurion chassis. It entered service around 1991.

Ukraine has developed BMP-55, BMPV-64. The Russians the T-55 based BTR-T. Jordan has the Centurion based MAP and Temsah. And on...

Improvised APC based on T-54 tank in Yad la-Shiryon Museum, Israel. 2005. The vehicle was used by the South Lebanon Army.

But heavy APCs based on tanks are much much older, dating back to WW2.

He is making a fool.of himself. Its too early or i should say pre-mature to praise Armata.

We would love to lend you some of our armour. Only problem being what if some of them are captured by Talibs & used against you. I am sure, phase by phase we will equip you with best of what we can offer.
