Maharashtra Navnirman Sena chief Raj Thackeray kicked off another row on Saturday by holding Biharis as responsible for the surge in rape cases in the country.

Targeting the people of Bihar and affirming that various charges were filed against him for speaking against them, Thackeray said "All are talking about the Delhi gangrape, but nobody is asking from where these men came. No one is asking who did it. So many cases are slapped against me (for speaking against Biharis) but no one is talking about the fact that all these rapists are from Bihar," PTI reported.

Thackeray made the controversial comment while addressing a rally in Mumbai late Saturday. Earlier, the Sena chief had referred to the Biharis in Maharashtra as "infiltrators".

"If the Bihar government tries to become a hurdle in the way of a police investigation, then my party would dub every Bihari in Maharashtra as an infiltrator and would force them to leave the state," he had said in September threatening that if authorities in Bihar took legal action against Mumbai policemen, who picked up a teen on charges of vandalising the martyr's memorial during Azad Maidan protest in August, then Biharis would be forced to leave Maharashtra.

he MNS chief had also ridiculed Chhath Puja, a festival that is elaborately celebrated in Bihar, by calling it a "drama". A summons was issued to him for humiliating Biharis and promoting enmity between various groups on grounds of religion.

Thackeray's comment that Bihari migrants were responsible for the rising rape cases in India comes at a time when country is outraged over the death of the 23-year-old physiotherapy who was gang-raped on Dec 16.

I never saw Raj during dharnas and marches in December last year or never heard about his opinions about new anti-rape law.
Leaders like them will always remain in folds of regional party.

What about backing his claims with data and statistics ??Then only authenticity of his claims could be judged in true sence , passing blank statements in the hope of garnering local (Marathi) vote seems to be only motivation for his prejudice towards Biharies.

He doesn' t stop there only but he feels it's necessary to take a cheap shot on one's religious beliefs. Chath puja is considered one of the most pious and revered festival of Bihari peoples . As a Indian I am ashamed of Raj who only create factions in Country to achieve his petty political goals.

someone hasnt spiked his leftover broccoli dinner with radionuclide polonium-210 yet?

oh that's too bad

The earlier statistics till January proved him wrong as Mahrashtra was far ahead in crimes against women than Bihar .

Politicians such as Raj Thackeray might chose to stereotype the state, but official data demolishes the label cast on Bihar. The state ranks low in crime against women in comparison to the other states.

What is alarming, though, is the rise in crimes against women nationwide. The National Crime Records Bureau shows a 40% rise in cases like rape in five years from 2006.

As many as 2.3 lakh cases of such crimes were reported from all over the country in 2011. In 2006, the figure was 1.6 lakh.

The crime on women, as rate of total crimes in 2011, is a disquieting 19%. It is 14.7% in 2006.

MNS Chief Raj Thackeray had on Sunday accused the migrants from Bihar for the gangrape in Delhi.

But with 10, 231 cases of crime on women (4.5% of total), Bihar stands at ninth position in the country, the NCRB data for 2011 shows.

West Bengal with 29, 133 (12.7 %) and Andhra Pradesh with 28, 246 cases (12.4 %) top the list in 2011. Uttar Pradesh comes next with 22, 639 cases.

At same time, Maharashtra has recorded 15, 728 such crimes. Even a small state Assam has 11, 503 crimes committed on women.

But Delhi takes the cream of crime on women. 4,489 is the number of offences on women reported from the city in 2011 — the highest of 88 cities.

Bangalore comes a distant second with 1,890 cases and Hyderabad follows closely with 1,860 cases.

Bihar has been consistent in the crime on women graph. Five years earlier, in 2006, the state recorded 6740 crimes on women — 4.1% of such crimes countrywide.

However, in overall incidence of violent crimes, Bihar stands second in the country next only to Uttar Pradesh.

In 2011, 26, 003 cases of violent crime, a bulk of them riots, were reported in Bihar while UP has 32, 987 crimes.

If he thinks so he is an idiot.

As usual media twisting his words,

He has genuine concerns about Mumbai and its security which allows terrorists like Abu Azmi to live and thrive.

He take sup the Bihar thing purely against the Bhiari Muslims and the criminal elements but he cant and doesn't openly say so.

nobody is clean but yes UP n Bihar r a mess...:agree:

well sure bihar is bad in economy only. in rape . Maharashtra and Assam are fifth and sixth in the shameful list respectively, which has had seventeen hundred and one (1701) & seventeen hundred (1700) rape cases respectively.
Bihar with nine hundred and thirty four (934)rape cases reported last year is ninth in the shameful list.

raj thakre is a stupid person .

1.He has to stop targeting a particular state.Non Maharashtrians are not aliens.

2.First blame the law and order,rectify it's loopholes,before attacking the community/religion.

I don't think Chath puja is celebrated by Bihari Muslims too.
