MINGORA (Pakistan): A bomb blast killed a local
leader of an anti-Taliban political party on Sunday
in Pakistan's northwestern Swat Valley, the
fourth such attack targeting members of secular-
learning parties during their campaigns for next
month's parliamentary election. The bomb planted near Mukarram Shah's car
exploded in the village of Banjot , said Abdullah
Khan, police chief of the city of Mingora where
the village is located. He said the device appeared
to have been set off by remote control. Shah is from the secular Awami National Party
(ANP), which supported military operations
against militants in the region. The ANP is among three secular-leaning political
parties that the Pakistani Taliban have threatened
to attack during campaigns for the May 11
parliamentary elections. The other two parties
are the Pakistan Peoples Party and the Muttahida
Qaumi Movement. 'Pakistan woes tied to Kashmiri jihadis' Cricketer-turned-politician Imran Khan' s party
has acknowledged "Kashmiri ****** forces" active
in Pakistan as one of key factors driving "terror
and lawlessness" within the country. The 'Naya Pakistan Plan' , a document posted on
the Pakistan Tehrik-e-Insaf's special website
created for the May 11 polls, lists six factors in its
section on internal security that "drive terror and
lawlessness in varying degrees". Political innings? No, says Afridi Making it clear he had not joined any political
party, as reported by media, Pakistan all-rounder
Shahid Afridi on Sunday said his focus remained
doing well for the national side. The rumours
began to spread about Afridi joining politics
when he went to offer condolences to the former prime minister Nawaz Sharif on the death of his
brother in Lahore.
