BAREILLY: In a bid to counter Narendra Modi's 'Chai pe charcha' campaign, local Congress members, as part of their ongoing 'Sandesh yatra', kicked off a 'Sadbhavna chaat' campaign in the city on Thursday to woo voters ahead of the upcoming Lok Sabha elections.
Tagged "sadbhavna yukta, sampradayikta mukta chaat", the initiative started from DD Puram crossing on Thursday, where the popular savoury was handed out to the public from mobile takeaways. The locals, particularly the women, flocked around the mobile stall for hot tikkis and paani poori.
Anuj Gangwar, the organizer of the event, said, "Unlike NaMo tea stalls which were put up only in Hindu-dominated areas of the city, we would be covering localities inhabited by people of all communities in the first leg of our campaign."
Apart from DD Puram, the mobile stall travelled to the Sikh-dominated area of Model Town and thereafter moved towards the Muslim locality of Eent Panja crossing. In the evening, the focus was on Mission compound - an area which has a strong Catholic presence.
