People are trying to read into General Ashfaq Parvez Kayani’s statement to his men about institutions minding their lines and not stepping over them, or defaming the military. Was this a warning to the Supreme Court in wake of the Asghar Khan and Balochistan missing persons’ cases, or is he warning of a mood change regarding democracy?
Perhaps, the statement is neither of the above but just an effort to appease his own officers who might view the decision in the Asghar Khan case or general negative publicity of senior retired officers as the existing high command compromising the organisation’s credibility. Although there is no doubt that no one would dare grill the former army chief or DG ISI like common criminals, the Asghar Khan case may have an impact on the morale of the ordinary officer and jawan who is not used to the army being seriously taken to task. He is certainly in need to show to his own men that he is in control of the situation and will protect the institution given the rumours regarding his possible extension and allegations of financial mismanagement of his own family members. The general understands that an impression that he would compromise on the power of the institution may not go down too well with the ‘boys’ who have grown big egos and consider their institution like Caesar’s wife – above questioning.
While the superior judiciary can claim until cows come home that they have put a check on army’s adventurism through judicial activism in various cases, the fact is that nothing serious has happened in terms of real questioning of GHQ’s power. The superior judiciary is sufficiently pragmatic not to challenge the army chief the manner in which it was all prepared to sack an inefficient but elected provincial government in Quetta. Even if the judges don’t agree, an alleged corruption case in the Chief Justice’s family does deprive the highest court of its real bite.
The army chief would probably be even less worried about real accountability of retired officers by other agencies as the premier accountability institution is brimming with retired military officers some of whom are either hardcore realists not intending to rock any boat or are too close to Kayani. In fact, had the three generals accused in the Railway corruption scandal not blown their top in front of cameras, the act of civilian government summoning senior retired generals would have made great PR for both the military and the civilian government. In any case, the general went out of his way to restore service of three former generals in the NLC case to save them the embarrassment of being tried for corruption by civilians. It was a few years ago that a senior retired general heading Fauji Foundation had refused to appear before the parliament. The mentality persists.
There is little likelihood of the PPP government led by a prime minister from Kayani’s own area and a super-pragmatic President Asif Zardari would start intense accountability of former generals, leave alone sitting commanders and their institution.
However, Kayani would still want to remind his boys and the civilian onlookers that they should not go beyond a point in wanting accountability or pointing a finger at the military fraternity that includes retired officers. The general used the typical tool of reminding people of upholding of military’s honour in tough times in the national interest. He may be still lucky as there is grim possibility of someone reminding him that real national interest lies in clean institutions including the military.

Immature to say the least that martial law is better or be imposed. People like you have severely dented the image of Pakistan, You people never Vote the right Party/Person and when everything is frakd up you call for martial law. Think out of the box every martial law has started nice and ended up wrong and poorly governed see how musharraf's last two years went by the economy was back to square 1.

We never have voted for any one cause hvnt seen any angel yet, instead you guys always sang the sweet songs of democrazy which kept failing again & again, not because of us its because the land lord political system in which only powerfull survives even though they always are crupt absolute crupt, but they kep conspirating against each others & when some of them got 2 3rd majority in the parliment they felt they became gods?
Even last of 2 years of musharf were far more better thn the past 5 dam years of democrazy?
Cng prices, feul prices, power prices, daily used item consuming prices, interchange rates of USD ,investment all were far more better thn today & also back thn in 1999?
Just check by urself!
Yes marshallaws in pakistan became one man show just because there was no rotation of command & a comitment to carry on, but thts just technical it can be resolved now?
& we can bring something like CHINA has done?
But we need to get rid of this stupid & ugly blood hungry democrazy as fast as possible.
Still today there r same parties & peoples in the politics which were in 70s , before they were in PPP or in PMLn but today they r in PTI, whts the difference nothing change just the colour of the flags changed!

Stay in Canada & you are going to stay there for a long time. Keep your advices with you.

Gen. Musharraf rule was one of the best in 30 years till date, even though his last two years were heavy but still they were million times better then what Pakistan is in today thanks to your beloved democracy. Martial Law is the right choice for Pakistan today & until Pakistan is clean of all this corrupt & evil politicians who have only damaged & robbed Pakistan always.

The rightful people who should run Pakistan are the youth of Pakistan not the old dogs who keep coming back again & again, plus worse than that they only obey US & Indian orders, they read the script which is given to them by their masters. PPP, PML-N, PML-Q, ANP, JUI & MQM are the enemy of Pakistan & they only work for their master US. So today Martial Law is the right choice for Pakistan.

that is why the leniency shown by SC to Military was not right, General Aslam baig and Durrani were obviously not acting as individuals, we all know that military does interfere, therefore, the decision should have had stated facts as it is, should have clutched them with hands of law... but since that has not happened, see the current COAS General kiyani getting out of his boots and trying to threaten Supreme court..

.
Full support to Chief Justice of Pakistan and no to General Kiyani, the coward !!

down with him and his threats to other institutions...

Wish Kiyani have said this to his subordinates that "General Baig and Durrani overstepped, look what the justice system did to them, they are no more respected officers, they brought shame not only to the military but also to the country, hence none of you should ever poke their noses in affairs of the state, know your place in the system"

but he didnt say that, instead hurled threats against other institutions !!

This is a simple fight for supremacy. Whether someone declares that he holds the last punch or that theirs is the supreme authority, this only shows that something is not right.

The executive has been beaten into submission. It is between these two to decide who actually rules Pakistan. Don't think any good is going to come out of this.

Even Musharraf Thanked All Pakistanis living abroad for sending the huge remittance every year which is the engine of Pakistan's Economy. Pakistanis living abroad are actually running Pakistan, The sooner you learn the Facts. I have ties to both countries I go at free will to Pakistan and contribute apart from sending remittance go ask shaukat khanum, edhi, fatimid.

I am giving you a challenge under the pretext that you consider Pakistanis worthless, lets see how good you people are helping Pakistan; There is a very old man who used to be tabla nawaz with mehdi hassan abida parveen and other renowned singers he has grown old and asked government with tears in his old eyes to help him with his last wish to send him for Hajj the cost for everything is around 85000 Rupees lets see if you can send him next Year for Hajj this is a challenge to you his name is Gulab Khan and he lives in 1 bedroom his family ditched him after working like a donkey to give them a better life.

Some of you Pakistanis who consider yourselves best citizens voting terrible Parties have a Challenge prove your worth and help this man being a Pakistanis it only takes 85,000 rupees Ticket and his needs.
