If you've been holding out on getting an Amazon Prime subscription, it might be time to start asking yourself why, because Amazon has just announced plans to make one-day shipping free nationwide for all Prime members. Just let that sink in for a second — you click around, getting everything you need into your cart, and then just 24 hours later, you can expect it to show up at your front door. It's not quite instant gratification, but it's freakily close.

Naturally, there are some caveats to this service, namely that it hasn't kicked in yet, and that not every product on the site will be eligible for free shipping. But the amount of products that it does apply to is expanding, and regardless, this is a major improvement on one of the most compelling reasons to be an Amazon Prime member: the lightning-fast shipment speeds. In the past, you'd have to rack up at least $35 in purchases to qualify for the free one-day shipping, but with this new policy, it will be added as a default no matter how much you're spending.

The halved shipping time is particularly good news if you're looking at, oh I don't know, some of the Allure Best of Beauty products that are available on Amazon right this very minute. Quite a few of them are under $35, so you no longer have to wait to do a bigger order to stock up on items like the Honest Beauty Magic Organic Beauty Facial Oil ($23), or the John Frieda Frizz Ease Daily Nourishment Leave-In Conditioner ($10), or even the Stila Glitter and Glow Liquid Eye Shadow ($24).

Now you can refresh your beauty products as they run out, without stressing over going without during the time it takes to ship or tacking on additional expenses.

In the words of Amazon CFO Brian Olsavsky in Thursday's announcement: "[This] opens a lot of potential for purchase and convenience for [our] customers,” he said. “We really think it's going to be groundbreaking for Prime customers, and we're really excited to add this capability."

He didn't add anything about the part where this is clearly all part of the company's diabolical plan to make me cancel on my plans and stay indoors 100 percent more often, but I guess we can just consider that subtext.

There's no clear word yet on when the new one-day shipping will officially launch, but Olsavsky pledged that Amazon would be laying a lot of the infrastructure groundwork throughout the rest of 2019. In the meantime, Amazon Prime is available for just $119 a year, and comes with a host of benefits including a free trial — so it's a good time to sign up now at Amazon.com.

Agreed! It’s so incredibly convenient, Amazon has just about anything you could possibly need or want.

Not to mention the fact the prices are incredibly Competitive with any other merchant.

this happens when you own whole supply chain so no incidental costs are incurred for delivery as it is owned by company and now amazon is heading towards monopoly by becoming a cost leader and giving much discount to kill competitors but i also think that they will adjust the cost of delivery in some of their products prices in a manner that public may not become aware of this

Personally like them a lot because they have a huge vinyl record catalog that’s competitively priced.

That and they sell an assortment of portable USB amplifiers and DAC’s that I can’t find locally.

I have had prime since it launched in India and i love it becaue its not just shipping but whole host of other services as well.
But i think so far for one day shipping we had to pay ₹100 thats like $1.5. its free in all countries where prime is available or just in US?

While we can appreciate a service like this, on the down side, Amazon is killing millions of business opportunities which used to exist for small to medium businesses. Now everybody is forced to work for them, 6 days a week, 12 hours a day.

Have a read, and see not so celebrate-able side of Amazon's success.

Many Americans do support local businesses -- depends on the business. Not likely Amazon will ship a three course meal in one hr.

That said...There are many arguments for Amazon and those arguments rests on the one thing that retailers admitted their failure...CUSTOMER SERVICE.

Amazon is a symptom, not the cause of brick-and-mortar stores closing. Every consumer have his/her own horror stories about customer service. When you think about it, customer reviews of products are superior to store employees who are supposed to be knowledgeable of what a department sells. Then when you add in fast shipping, it is difficult to resist the temptation to use Amazon instead of going to the local store that often frustrated you in the first place.

As for working conditions, brick and mortar retailers are no better, or at best, just barely better. I have never worked in retail because I joined the USAF then moved into manufacturing. But I have family members who worked in retail, one of them worked for Victoria's Secrets for a few yrs, then moved into service like restaurants and bars, and each have his/her own horror stories of demands of hrs, terrible customers, less than competitive pay and benefits, and even dangerous working conditions. I never thought of working among bras, panties, and assorted lingerie can have 'dangerous' working conditions, but there are...Probably from distracted men colliding into people and displays...

Believe it or not, Walmart is actually competing and sometimes even beating Amazon in some aspects. Amazon is not local, Walmart is. Both entities know there are items that cannot be enticed by rapid shipping. Medicines, for one. Local vegetables or other unique foodstuff is another. Walmart stores sells tires and install them while Amazon cannot do the second half. If I go to the local Walmart for some things, I can pick up other things that while Amazon also sells, I can pick them up now, so in this aspect, Walmart comes out ahead.

Well that’s good too my friend :)

The main reason I opened my prime credit account was because it included a $50 Amazon credit, which I used immediately used towards buying a nice electric razor.

.
A while back they used to offer that too with some credit card but I didn't want to get yet another credit card, last week I discontinued one of my cards and thought about it and it was no more.........damn $50 lost!!!

Nothing wrong with cutting down when need be. I think the card you were referring to was the visa card. Whereas I just have the Amazon store card.

The visa card version had and even higher credit.
