YouTube dream come true: B'klyn comedian Craig Rowin asks for $1 million in video; man offers it
YouTube dream come true: B'klyn comedian Craig Rowin asks for $1 million in video; man offers it
A Brooklyn comedian who made a YouTube video asking for somebody - anybody - to give him $1 million claimed Wednesday that his improbable dream has come true.
Craig Rowin said he was "flabbergasted" by his good fortune.
"It still hasn't sunk in yet," the 27-year-old funnyman told the Daily News. "Do I deserve it? I have no idea. Maybe not. But there's so much wealth. Let me have a chunk."
Rowin insisted this is no stunt. In a new video, he produced as proof a notarized letter from a mysterious moneyman named Benjamin.
He also played a telephone call from the purported plutocrat.
"Hi Craig, Benjamin, I was hoping to catch you in person," the caller said. "I want to talk about how to make you a millionaire."
Rowin told The News his benefactor liked the video and called it "really fun." He said he would reveal Benjamin's last name on Feb. 2, when he collects the check at the Upright Citizens Brigade Theater on West 26th St. in Manhattan.
Asked what he would do with the dough, Rowin said, "I'm not going to go out and buy two jet skis. At least not now."
Would he consider taking a limo to his comedy writing jobs at The Onion and the UCB?
"I might take one once in a while," he said. "But not a stretch Hummer. I have some standards."
Rowin, who online lists his hometown as Scarsdale, posted a video two months ago in which he simply asked for a millionaire to step up and shower him with money.
"Millionaires, listen up," Rowin began. "I have a proposition. Please give me one million dollars."
Rowin said he didn't need the money for "anything specific."
"But I think it would be awesome," he said.
Among the people Rowin hit up for money were Lady Gaga, Warren Buffett, Gary Busey, Tom Seaver, Nelson Mandela, James Earl Jones, Rudy Giuliani, Ed Koch and actor Will Smith's kids.
Rowin also hit up the newly rescued Chilean miners for money and apologized if they weren't millionaires.
Later, on his blog, Rowin promised to eat a McDonald's McRib sandwich if somebody gave him a million dollars.
He is one lucky man !!!
