ISLAMABAD, Apr 4 (APP): The All Pakistan Zulfiqar Alizai Memorial Football Tournament will commence at Dera Ismail Khan on April 15. Member Organising Committee, Rana Tanvir Ahmed Khan, said leading teams of the country will participate in the tournament.

The teams having already confirmed their participation are CDA, Islamabad, Panther Club Faisalabad, Pak-Afghan Club, Chaman, Karawan Club, Mian Channu, Chattan Club, Layyah, Eleven Star Club, Bannu, Khan Club, Miranshah, P.Eleven Club, Miranshah, Shaheen Club, Tank, Aatish Club, Tank, and Sabir Club, Tank.

The teams of district associations of Rahimyar Khan, Bahawalpur, Mardan and Bannu will also compete in the tournament.

Brisk preparations are afoot to hold the tournament under the supervision of the Organising Secretary Nawabzada Qayyum Nawaz Khan Alizai.

The tournament has been named after Nawabzada Zulfiqar Ali Khan Alizai.

Pakistan, India placed in Group B of AFC Youth Football

LAHORE: Pakistan-India clash in U19 event will be recorded in November in tough Qualifying Group of AFC Youth Championship. Besides India, Pakistan will take on Asian powerhouse Iran, Bahrain, Oman and Lebanon in Group-B from November 1-11.

Pakistan is taking part regularly in the tournament which was an annual event until 1978, the competition is now played on a biennial basis following the inauguration of the FIFA World Youth Championship in 1977, and is also restricted to under-19s.

Pakistan Football Federation (PFF)’s President Faisal Saleh Hayat is taking serious steps to build up a formidable team for the November’s show. “ National U18 Football Championship being held from August 3-11 August will provide us talented players and we are also hoping some budding footballers from National U15 event to stand against big teams of Asia,” he told APP here on Tuesday.

Reigning Asian Youth champions DPR Korea have been drawn in a relatively easy Group F in the AFC U-19 Championship Qualification Competition. DPR Korea have China, Malaysia, Macau, Singapore and Timor Leste for company in Group F.

The top-two teams from each of the seven groups advance to the Finals alongwith the best third-placed team. Hosts

Saudi Arabia qualify automatically for the Finals which will be held in 2008. All the matches will be played in one centralized venue hosted by one country in the group. Forty-two teams came out of pots and were divided into two zones, with each zone being divided further into six technical levels based on the AFC Youth Championship 2006 ranking.

Asian youth runners-up Japan are also strong favourites to qualify from Group E after being joined in the pool by Thailand, Laos, Myanmar , Maldives and Chinese Taipei.

Korea Republic have Australia for company in Group F alongwith Vietnam , Hong Kong, Indonesia and Guam .

The U19 competition is a best way for developing and promoting youth football in Asia. The top-four finishers of AFC Youth Championship 2008 will advance to the 17th FIFA World Youth Championship 2009.

GROUP C: Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Syria, Qatar, Turkmenistan, Bhutan

GROUP D: Jordan, Uzbekistan , Yemen, Nepal, Palestine, Afghanistan GROUP E: Japan, Thailand , Laos, Myanmar, Maldives, Chinese Taipei.

GROUP F: DPR Korea, China, Malaysia, Macau, Singapore, Timor Leste GROUP

GROUP G: Korea Republic , Australia, Vietnam, Hong Kong, Indonesia, Guam.●
