LAHORE: An Asian Development Bank team, currently visiting Punjab, on Sunday offered further 697.8 million dollars for the three ongoing development projects in the province. The projects include Punjab Irrigated Agricultural Improvement Project (PIAIP) and Lower Bari Doab Canal Improvement project costing $227.8 million, the Renewable Energy Development Sector Investment Programme costing $200 million, and the New Khanki Barrage Construction Project costing $270 million.
The ADB team, led by Country Director Werner E Liepach, visited the Planning and Development Department of the Punjab and discussed with their local counterparts the pace of the work on these projects.
According to a spokesman of the Planning and Development Department, Werner Liepach lauded the Punjab governments performance and offered the new funding for the three development projects. He hoped that like past, the Punjab government would also use the new $697.8 million funds judiciously, the spokesman added.
Planning and Development Department Chairman Javed Aslam briefed the delegation about the pace of work on all three ABD-funded projects. Planning and Development Department Secretary Arif Anwar Baloch was also present.
Other members of the ABD delegation were Alternative Executive Directors Khin Khin Lwin and Richard Edwads, Executive Directors Ashok Lahim, Maurin Sitroms, J-Destwala and Kazuhile Lwguchi.
