I have a question here.
Was Pakistani army/special forces actively involved during the Soviet invasion of Afghanistan?
I stress on the word actively as I mean active participation.

A few days back I took a short trip to Goa with my friends, where I happened to meet an elderly Russian guy in a beer bar.We talked a lot about various things, and it came out that he had served in Afghanistan during the invasion.3 bottles down,he heavily stressed in his broken English with Russian accent, that Pakistan was much more deeply involved in Afghanistan than the World knows. He even said that Pakistani special forces were actively involved in numerous raids on Soviet installations in a matter-of-fact manner.True or not, good stories indeed,we paid for his beer and eventually left.

The involvement of Pakistan in facilitating the flow of supplies of arms, ammunition, ration and money to the mujaheddin rebels is widely known (I would recommend the movie: Charlie Wilson's war).

The questions is,"Did Pakistani army/special forces actively take part in operations against Soviet forces, even if limited ?".It would have been quite a task if they did, considering the might of the Soviet armed forces in those days.
Can someone throw some light into this ?

I am glad that you sorted out your enemies right..keep it up and you will make progress in life..

Can we stick to the topic please ?

OK, soviets claim that pakistani special forces have fought side by side with mujahedeens, in Battle for Hill 3234 some soviet auther has claimed that SSG took part there, but this claim has been refuted by pakistan

seems like they have mistook properly trained afghan muhajedeens for pakistanis

if you see the russian movie 9th rota, they have shown so called pakistanis fighting like girls, special unit doesnt fight like that

I searched a little in the net and came up with group named "Black Stork",members of Pakistani special forces who conducted raids against Russian posts in Afghanistan, dressed up like mujaheddin.

This thing had drawn my interest.Searched a little on the net about this, came across the movie name that you mention, watched it with subtitles yesterday night. They did not mention Pakistani involvement anywhere though and by the way,at no point of time,it seemed like the rebels were fighting like girls,in fact they packed quite a punch. But then, its just a movie.
Is there any recorded history of active involvement ?May be the senior members can contribute something ?

Yes SSG was heavily involved. Many officers also got captured, few escaped and some even returned back for further missions. I say this, because my first cousin was one of them. He's now a MG.

First, How would one know.

Second, would it be a surprise?

Pakistanis are an emotional lot....they even attacked Israel drunk in there misguided fraternal craziness(Zaid himid is one such fruit of that era).

Diplomacy isent there strong point , well u can blame Zia for that if im correct.

No buddy, it was just pure job. Nothing to be emotional about. Targets were assigned, mission were planned and executed. Most made it back, some got caught. But the ones who got caught were not that easy to distinguish between, most officers that were used were actually Pathans and belonged to the Powindahs.

1967 i think ;not exact on the date ..but u can google it

Officers belonging to SSG regiments are as cold as liquid nitrogen. :) No emotions whatsoever :D

Fair enough...but still it wouldn't be a surprise. Russia had overreached with a large area to guard and little resources to spare.
And if anyone hears Zias speaches on the Afghans being brothers and stuff i bet a safe guess that he would have sent some of his men in too.

Nops, you're misinformed. It was our pilots in Syria / Jordan / Egypt flying CAP missions, while Arabs feasted on breakfast. With the advantage of

1. Good training
2. Dozen or so different dialects of Pushto to choose from, Israelis listeners used to get confused.

That's how we were able to shoot down couple of their AC's.

But the guys who shot down the Israelis, give testament to this date about the ferocious flying abilities of the Israelis. :D

congratulations to your first cousin on being Major General. Its an honour. He must have some great stories to share!
I am interested in the events and how they were handled and what made the Pakistani army to put their special forces in the active line of duty, you know what I mean.Actively fighting the a huge power like the Soviets has its own implications.
Can you please point out any specific incidents apart from the Hill 3234 ?

@ Splurgenxs
A better way of approach would be not generalizing the people and being specifically to the point as anything beyond that is an utter loss of time and bandwidth, both uncontrollable vectors.
