The formal opening of the project will be performed soon after completion of the resettlement of the population displaced due to the raising of the project, they said.
New Mirpur City and four small towns located in Mirpur district will be ready by December this year since the development work in all these new residential resorts, exclusively meant for housing the raising project victims, was in full swing, Khan Abdul Rasheed Bangash, General Manager, WAPDA told The News.
Mangla Dam is being raised by 40 feet from the existing level of 1,202 feet, he said. WAPDA plans to raise the water level by 1,210 feet this year soon after completion of the first phase of the resettlement of the Mangla Dam victims, he said. The existing Mangla Dam has the age of 200 years.
