This is in no way an accurate potrayal of all the people in the sub-continent but a generalisation based on my interaction with people on the internet and in the real.

1) Loyalty to family and community - the most defining trait

2) Devotion to religion - although becomes bad in some cases, overall a good one.

3)Patriotism - sometimes bordering on jingoism

4) Chalta hai attitude - hope you guys know what I mean

5)Emotional/Sentimental - (The love for cricket is a strong contender for this place.)

Please share your thoughts too.!!!

Disclaimer - Again this is just a generalisation that is congruent with most of the people and not all.

Yeah I would say so, but these often differ from country to country too.

If I am not wrong, religious devotion would deviate between Pakistan-India.

The religion to which they are devoted may differ...but nevertheless Devotion is there.

Another ' common' to ppl of our region more so of those in the North are that they have an opinion on everything - even subjects they do not know. Rarely will some say ' I dont know".

Also, we are very quick to form opinions & share them .

this is awesome thread and promise i will not try to troll :D

another trait is big time socializing, in UK i realize how its like living like a desi, here indian/pakistanis are one, whether it be bangladeshi, pakistani, indian, they will like to move in a group... because of sharing a common language, good friends are often included as a family brother type of thing..

if u enter some desi restaurent, they would treat like a family, its a very good attitude

This is what made me to change my attitude towards our neighbour nations. I remember I went 2 Pakistani restaurants in Capetown and 1 in San Fransisco, When they here that our group is from India they giving special service (with extra dose of love) to us. I simply loved that and this made me to realize how close we are inspite of all fights. I can never forget Lahori uncle of Capetown, the way he treated us was worthless.

On topic: The one thing which is good but simultaneously it is bad for professionalism is that we make groups based on South Asian countries then sub group in them based on nation, religion, language etc. I heard many complaints from Americans (through my PM) that These Indians and Pakistani folks are always in group and never get open to other countries, secondly even during office we talk in our languages which they find unprofessional and think that we are teasing them :D:D

Indians and Pakistanis in South Asia living in a cave will not believe this.

This is what I refer as "Self-superiority syndrom of South Asians".

One more interesting trait is we always have tendency that this guy is looking like some hero or some girls is looking like that etc. Then we are always ready to get hooked or hook our dear ones.. you know what I mean..:D:D

Ohh Most important point is missed and that is "AddeBazi" ya "chaupal lagana". Until or unless we all frnds will meet and discuss all things (mostly about girls :D then cars, wars) and then say F#CK all things have some beer and lets sleep :D
