460 People Missing in Pakistan: Justice (retd) Javed Iqbal

Time to set the record straight and refute the baseless propaganda of thousands of missing persons in Balochistan province . According to Mr Javed Iqbal head of Judicial commission to investigate the festering issue of enforced disappearances has said the following.

Justice Iqbal admitted that no state institution has precise statistics on missing persons. “There is a baseless propaganda about the number of missing persons,” he said and put the number at 460.

He further said:

The chief minister had sent to the panel a list of 945 missing persons but without their particulars, he said. “We sent the list back to the (home) ministry for correction but it never came back.”

Also nobody would be consider disappeared or missing unless his/her relatives provide some concrete evidence about that "missing" guy. Just giving a random name won't be considered as a case of missing person.

Regarding the next step, Justice Iqbal said, “We have been doing our job in Islamabad. We will soon visit interior Balochistan, including Gwadar, Turbat and Khuzdar. No person will be declared missing until or unless his/her relatives turn up and show their identity cards or driving licences.”

Can say a lot about occupied Kashmir, AFSPA etc etc but that would deviate the thread so leave it.

I have been saying this all along. Not all missing persons are captured by ISI, most are either on a holiday to A-stan (Kunar, Paktia) or have run away from home for a vacation in Waziristan or simply in Balochistan.

There are people picked up by ISI, but the number is not in thousands as some put it, it is around 400 as said by the judge. And not all are wrongly picked, most of them are terrorists. And here is where the problem occurs.

Because of lack of proper legislation, and the parliament doing 18, 19 etc amendments but not one regarding terrorism, the terrorists if given to the courts, get released, and that is why the ISI keeps them in their custody.

But then again what is happening in some parts of Pakistan like people being killed just because they belonged to some ethnicity or they belonged to some sect. Is this acceptable to you?

atleast you agree that those who struggle peacefully should not be abducted, killed or tortured, and be presented to the court when asked, and not their mutilated bodies be found the next day...


the point is state is a responsible entity. either declare state of war or follow law !

The thing that irks the military high ups is that the people they catch, and then present in courts get released on basis of low evidence. Maulana Abdul Aziz, I mean how much more evidence do you need on that guy.

CJP has also said that they might call COAS tomorrow.!!!

Totally agreed with you. In this case those who call themselves "political workers" have connections with militants. They aren't peaceful as they claim. I can guarantee you that. That's why a "political party" led by Barahmadagh called BRP also has a militant wing called as BRA.

Not the most ideal thing, i agree. But it's the only thing that can be done right now. It ain't the best thing though.
