At least 456 persons including men, women and children were murdered in the provincial metropolis from January 1 to November 15, while 455 murders were reported in the corresponding period of 2011.
It has been observed that most murders were committed over old enmities, property disputes, monetary disputes, and illicit relations. In many cases, the killers used guns ranging from 30-bore to AK-47 to eliminate their targets.
City Division police remained on top in murder cases registered in its jurisdiction as 129 persons were killed from January 1 to November 15, whereas 110 murders were registered during the same period of 2011. There was a 17.2pc increase in murder incidents this year.
Cantt Division police got second position as around 120 persons were murdered in its limits during the period under review while 97 murders were reported in 2011. There was a 23.7pc increase in murder incidents this year.
Similarly, at least 95 persons were murdered in Sadar Division police limits since January 1 to November 15, whereas 100 murders were reported during the corresponding period of 2011. There was a 5pc decrease in murder incidents this year.
At least 60 persons were murdered in Model Town Division police during the period under review, while 66 murders were reported in the same period of 2011. There was a 9.09pc decrease in murder incidents this year. Around 32 persons were murdered in Iqbal Town Division police from January 1 to November 15, while 41 murders were reported during the same period of 2011, a 21.95pc decrease this year. At least 20 persons were killed in Civil Line Division police limits during the period under review, while 41 murders were reported from January 1 to November 15, 2011. There was a 51.21pc decrease in murder incidents this year.
Meanwhile, the Lahore Investigation Wing led by DIG Investigation Ch Shafiq Ahmad and SSP Investigation Babar Bukht Qureshi accelerated the pace of investigation this year as City Investigation Division police completed 74pc murder investigations, Civil Line Investigation police completed 95pc murder investigations, Cantt Investigation Division police completed 76pc murder investigations, Iqbal Town Investigation Division police completed 94pc murder investigations, Model Town Investigation Division police completed 92pc murder investigations and Sadar Investigation Division police completed 82pc murder investigations. Model Town Investigation police submitted challans of 32 new and 14 old cases from January 1 to November 15, while Iqbal Town Investigation police submitted challans of 20 new and four old cases during the same period.
Similarly, Civil Line Investigation police submitted challans of 13 new and 1 old case from January 1 to November 15, while Cantt Investigation police submitted challans of 74 new and 13 old cases during the period.
