Federal Minister for Water and Power Ch Ahmed Mukhtar has said that 45 wind power projects of around 3200MW capacity are under process that would helpful to eradicate load shedding from the country.
Addressing as chief guest in the launching ceremony of commemorative postal stamp on inauguration of Pakistans first 50MW wind energy project by FFC, he said that among these projects of wind power projects of 106MW are ready for commercial operation, while another 150MW wind projects are under construction.
The next year will see at least 10 more projects, an investment of over 2 billion dollars, he added.
The minister said that commencement of commercial operation of FFC Wind Farm is the beginning of exploiting the wind potential of renowned Gharo Keti Bandar Wind Corridor an area that alone offers power generation potential of 50,000MW. He said I feel exalted that many more wind power projects are in pipeline and would commence their commercial operations one after another in the coming months.
Ahmed Mukhtar said today, we are celebrating launch of the First Wind Farm in Pakistan, together with our partners in the achievement and I am glad that the Pakistan Post is also with us in celebrating a landmark in our energy sector. Release of a Commemorative Stamp, indeed shows their commitment in encouraging all those who serve Pakistan with courage and dedication.
We have made a comprehensive plan to change our energy mix to generate cheaper electricity by using indigenous resources like wind, coal and hydel, minister informed, he maintained.
The minister said that he was informed that the next year we will see similar success in the projects from Waste to Energy, Small Hydro, and Sugar Co-generation and the Fauji Fertilizer will add 10 MW SOLAR PV to this 50 MW Wind project, making this a Hybrid - Base-load plant.
The CEO, AEDB Arif Allauddin in his welcome address said that the country would see more new projects in the alternative energy sector.
Managing Director of FFC, Lt General (r) Khalid Naeem Lodhi also spoke on the occasion and said that the company is plaaning to invest more capital in the power sector and other wind project with the collaboration of China is under construction and soon would be completed.
