QUETTA - Four militants were killed and 33 others arrested in an ongoing search operation in Bolan and New Kahan area on Monday.

Security sources said Frontier Corps carried out a raid on Pir Ghaib area of Bolan district on a tip off and killed four suspects after an exchange fire. Security personnel also arrested 10 accused and seized 22 kilograms of explosives, ammunition and other weapons from them. According to sources, so far ten alleged militants had been killed in the operation in different parts of Bolan district. Of them, seven were identified as Imdad Ali, Abdullah, Azat, Pala Khan, Rehman, Juma Khan and Wahid.

Separately, security officials raided New Kahan area near Marri Camp and rounded up over 33 suspects for their involvement in subversive acts. Sources said during the operation carried out by Frontier Corps and police jointly heavy weaponry was also seized from the accused who wanted to sabotage the 14 August celebrations. Sources further said the arrested suspects were now being interrogated.

On August 5, militants killed 14 people, including four security officers, after flagging their vehicles down at a fake checkpoint in Machh area of Bolan district.* Following the incident, security personnel carried out a search operation in and around Bolan and Mastung districts and claimed to having killed 12 militants.

Talking to media, Balochistan Home Secretary Akbar Hussain Durrani said the provincial government would ensure security of the masses. He said after the August 5 incident Home Department had decided to carry out a search operation in Bolan. He said FC backed by police and Levies Force carried out an operation in which six accused were killed and that search operation was underway on Sunday night through Monday morning in which four more militants were killed after a brief trade of fire.

The secretary said the accused killed in the operation were directly involved in killing of 13 passengers in Bolan which was evident from that fact that the rifles they had snatched from Levies personnel had been recovered from them. He vowed that nobody would be allowed to challenge the writ of government and all available resources would be utilized for security of the masses.
