HANGU: At least 12 militants were arrested and heavy ammunition was seized in a successful operation carried out by security forces in Hangu, Express News reported on Thursday.

Seven hand grenades, a landmine and six Kalashnikovs were recovered from the possession of the arrested militants.

A suspected militant was arrested after he opened fire at security forces and police officials during their visit to sensitive polling stations in Hangu on Tuesday. District Police Officer (DPO) Hangu Sajjad Khan said security officials along with the police were visiting the Togh Sarao polling station when the incident occurred.

According to Khan, the police along with the security forces launched a search operation following the incident and arrested the suspect, Abdul Nazir, a resident of Trai Bandha. An AK-47 along with 33 bullets were seized from his possession.

We congratulate the security forces in KP for their quick action in apprehending terrorists and avoiding potential terrorist’s attacks. The recent actions by security officials have put the terrorists on their back foot. This is the time to exert more pressure and make the enemy give up their evil games and join the mainstream peaceful society, or get arrested and spend rest of their lives in prisons. We standby and support the efforts of Pakistan in making the region safe and secure.
