2001 was 10 years ago. There was a census last year. India will achieve 90+% literacy by 2025. May be sooner if government boosts educational spending. Unlike China, primary education in India suffers from huge governmental neglect.

Well atleast Indian GDP is growing on PDF...Literacy rate indeed was 71% according to 2010 census but I am not pleased with what passes for literacy in India.
