That's right. My friend Muqeem is a byari from Mangalore, when I first heard him talking to his folks, I thought he was speaking Malayalam however, later I came to know that it's "Bhelpuri/Khichdi" language :D
I also had Mallu batch mates. I can understand bit of malayalam however, quite difficult to speak. However, out of all south Indian languages, I find malayam pretty pleasant to ears :)

Yes, Kerala GSB konkani dialect is completely influenced by malayalam, I have met Kerala GSBs couple of times during our community gatherings. It's really difficult for Karnataka GSBs to understand what those blokes are talking, it sounds exactly like malayalam :D

Ah ... Tulu, I can understand tulu 80 - 90 % however, can't speak properly though ;). My engineering room mates were from Udupi :)

Not just GSBs and Catholics, there are few OBCs in Karwar, Udupi and Mangalore districts who also speak Konkani however, their dialect is different from GSB and Catholic Konkani. Even Karwar and Udupi/Mangalore GSB Konkani dialect are different.
