Urdu was enforced on us, says Rabbani

Loyalty to Pakistan is judged by how willing you are to leave your own languages, culture etc.? Yet still everyone loves to bash Punjab

Do you know about Esperanto? https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Esperanto It was devised by combining all European languages, to serve as a common tongue across EU. See how that turned out.

So he's saying that the script of Urdu (Nastaliq) should be changed? Not sure what that would accomplish. Pashto, Sindhi etc. have the modified Arabic script rather than Nastaliq and with additional letters for particular sounds. Punjabi has Nastaliq as well (Shahmukhi) but imo it needs to be...

Urdu was enforced on us, says Rabbani

Not only pre-18th century but well into the 19th century. Only after British conquest (1843-1849) was Urdu started to be implemented in the region/regions of Pakistan. In a way, it actually is a continuation of British colonial policy. Very ironic for some posters accusing others of following...

Awans - Apparently a sub-clan of the Khattaks?

I think if more Awans took genetic tests we would be clear about their origins. Even a slight West shift could indicate something.

Urdu was enforced on us, says Rabbani

Actually, Farsi was that language, historically. Not Urdu.

Urdu was enforced on us, says Rabbani

You know, if children were given education in their mother tongue in government school all over rural Pakistan, the literacy rate would have been much better. They talk to their parents, friends etc. in another language but are given education in school in another one. No wonder the abysmal...

Urdu was enforced on us, says Rabbani

Regional languages would be given official status at provincial level. This would preserve 'our identity'. It is rather simple. Also, learning English has a lot of benefits while Urdu outside of Pakistan is pretty much useless. Wanting to preserve regional languages makes me an 'ethnicity...

Urdu was enforced on us, says Rabbani

It would actually help in promoting our own identity by making all the regional languages (Punjabi, Pashto, Seraiki, Sindhi, Baluchi etc.) official languages and to be in official use at provincial level while keeping English at the center. Killing our identity is what Urdu did.

Urdu was enforced on us, says Rabbani

I agree. English should be kept at national level while all regional languages be made official at provincial level. There should be a process of de-Urduization. The law, constitution etc. are already in English

He is Punjabi and I'm sure he was talking from a Punjabi perspective. And he is 100% right. Look at how Punjabi is dying in urban Punjab and getting highly Urduized. This is nothing short of cultural genocide.

Awans - Apparently a sub-clan of the Khattaks?

He is Alpial, they are native to Potohar You said he was Awan, the south Punjab malik was different http://www.anthrogenica.com/showthread.php?3159-Post-your-MDLP-K23b-calculator-Oracle-ancestry-here&p=55012&viewfull=1#post55012

Awans - Apparently a sub-clan of the Khattaks?

Look, most people of the world dont have accurate origin stories. Pashtuns claim descent from Jews and Greeks, Balochs from Amir Hamza/Arabs, Indian Hindus from Vedic Aryans who were Central Asian invaders etc. I dont think most Awans put emphasis on this origin theory anyway.

Awans - Apparently a sub-clan of the Khattaks?

ASI itself was half West Eurasian but I think yes, they look similar to other Potoharies. This was Awan's.

Arabic Music (modern, traditional, poems, anasheed, dua etc.)

Idk, I had heard many different Arabic dialects weren't mutually intelligible. To what degree is Somali Arabic similar to Peninsular/Saudi one?

Awans - Apparently a sub-clan of the Khattaks?

Awans are found all over Punjab, not just the Potohar Plateau and Hazara though they are in most concentration there. I doubt Pashtun origin though, many of these British writers made such theories due to some names sounding similar to them when translated to English. The author himself is...

Afghans in Punjab: 'The police are a little confused'

I was talking about the Afghan refugees in Punjab. I wonder if they retain Dari. I think they are less intergrated than the Afghan Pashtun refugees?
