I think US will never use Chinese components for their military wares if they know the source. More likely their own supplier was doing something questionable here.

Could be, I guess discarding these during launch is preferred over having ice falling off the rocket. Also lowers chance of malfunction.

Isn't Chongqing actually quite a large city by land area? Twice the size of Netherlands, in fact.
