    Interesting, I think they were designed to blow outwards if hit, like the naval version of a blowout panel. Also it seems the man gun barrel needs to be raised vertical for reloading.

    It does you can see the tip of one side showing. The tails don't seem to have any control surfaces and I think it might only be for stabilizing purposes.
