Pakistan ordered arms worth $4.5bn from US

If you have time, can you tell me what advantages these howitzers have over similar systems from China and how do they compare cost-wise? I'd appreciate a little info on them and info on the tank armour deal.

In the line of fire: infantry weapons

FM sir, what is your opinion on the 5.56 v 7.62 debate? I believe it would be a mistake to convert to 5.56, if the 7.62 is deemed unsuitable then an intermediate round should be used (as in the Chinese QBZ-95 rifle).

    Pakistan's Top Gun Obsession

JF-17 has had zero crashes so far, that makes it very safe indeed. The primary user's order has already been increased by 50% and its not even officially in service yet, I'd say that makes it pretty successful too. So according to you, JF-17 is just as lethal, if not more so, as the F-16.

US authorities impounded the Ukrainian IL78 for Pakistan

It makes sense that the Ukrainians would ask one of their customers with a spare Il-78 lying around to send it to Pakistan for a while. It doesn't make sense that the USA would impound it knowing that the Ukraine will just send one of theirs instead, they have plenty left over from the Soviet era.

    SU-30 Family

I'm pretty sure he's wrong, I read somewhere the BM has smaller tail surfaces and no canards to reduce drag and makes up for them with its TVC integrated into the flight control system. I wouldn't trust the info from these guys if I were you. :)

    Pakistan's Top Gun Obsession

Hang on. First he says its useless fighting bands of insurgents. Then he talks about Israel who uses it to fight bands of insurgents and forgets to mention the extensive use of advanced warplanes such as the F-16 against insurgents in Afghanistan? What a load of crap.

    We need more J-10Bs

According to somebody who claims to have spoke to PN officers, they are so adamant that J-11 is required for naval support that the Navy is willing to pay for them itself. Perhaps no significant importance to the Air Force (MK sahib would disagree with that to some extent), but the Navy clearly...

The best F-16's video ever - Anatollian Eagle

I agree. The footage of the low-level flying are my favourite parts.

    PAF's possible answer to MRCA

They had a budget in the late 1980s for the EF Typhoon of the time, the F-16. 70 of them in addition to the 40 already delivered. Remember what happened? So you're trying to argue that the PAF should NOT buy the most cost-effective aeroplane that meets all their requirements? You can read...

    PAF's possible answer to MRCA

All I can say is that Pakistan Air Force disagrees with you brother! They picked FC-20 over Rafale, Typhoon and Gripen, despite the Rafale being available with next to no worries about sanctions. Notice the PAF evaluated FC-20 alongside platforms such as Rafale and Gripen, not Mirage 2000 and...

Chengdu J-10 Multirole Fighter Air Craft News & Discussions

I think we can expect to see at least one J-10 squadron based at Sargodha for use in Combat Commanders School air combat training sorties, replacing the Mirage squadron. Delta wing fighters are not going to be retired along with PAF's Mirage III/5, therefore pilots going through CCS would need...

    PAF's possible answer to MRCA

I reckon even if they had plenty of funds they'd still have gone for J-10 and JF-17 in a high low mix, except both would enter service in far more expensive configurations. Funds can't stop sanctions, that was proved in the 80s/90s when the PAF ordered 70 more F-16s. Having said that, if funding...

    PAF's possible answer to MRCA

Do you have a link to that article? I'd appreciate it if you can post it here. Link to the thread: http://www.pakdef.info/forum/showthread.php?p=159955#post159955 It wasn't just price tag, lots of reasons.

Pakistan's Airborne Early Warning and Control Aircrafts

Has it ever shot down a manoeuvring target flying at around 400-450 mph from hundreds of kilometres away? Was the target jamming it with an advanced AESA radar and EW suite? Was the launch aircraft and the "special" missile facing opposing fighters armed with active radar homing missiles and 5th...

F-22P a bad decision by PN?

Penguin do you know of any frigates similar to the 22P that have had old missile launchers replaced with VL missile silos? I know that FM-90N is essentially a Chinese version of the Crotale which is still in use on new French frigates but the figures quoted in the FM-90 brochure seem to be worse...

JF-17 Thunder Multirole Fighter [Thread 3]

Its funny how he argues the JF-17 is useless because it is "one generation behind", he completely ignores the facts that I have pointed out to him again and again (with sources): it will be armed with missiles just as advanced and backed up by infrastructure just as comprehensive as any fighter...

    User groups and colors

I'd like "staff" colour to be changed to something other than yellowish brown. AgnosticM, after some consideration I have decided that bold yellow and pink are also not acceptable.

Urgently needed (Help me out please)

 The title of a WWII film: Pakistan Air Force WHERE EAGLES DARE Criticisms: reference to WWII which the PAF had no part in. A variation: IRON EAGLES Criticisms: reference to a really sh*tty hollywood film.
