Nightmare of Blasphemy in Pakistan - The story of Younus Shaikh

It can't be said that it is a non-issue. IMHO the existence of the law and its frequent use/abuse acts as a deterrent to those who might want to exercise freedom of expression or belief. I can't give you a number but a Google search for "blasphemy pakistan" gives 328,000 results.

Nightmare of Blasphemy in Pakistan - The story of Younus Shaikh

Pakistan is a signatory to the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, the preamble of which states: "the advent of a world in which human beings shall enjoy freedom of speech and belief ... has been proclaimed as the highest aspiration of the common people". If you will be killed for...

Nightmare of Blasphemy in Pakistan - The story of Younus Shaikh

Blasphemy - My Journey through Hell-* Statement by Dr M. Younus Shaikh: Muslims are the first victims of Islamism. In a novel and unethical way, Pakistani Mullahs have started abusing the dreadful Islamic Blasphemy laws to terrorise liberal and moderate Muslims. I am a Pakistani...

Thousands protest deaths blamed on Indian army in Kashmir

It was an attack by some people in uniform. Jihadis have used the tactic of wearing IA uniforms in the past. Obviously the Jihadis will be happy to whip up a frenzy. Kashmiri lives are no more precious to the Jihadis than Bengali lives were in 1971.

‘Meteoric’ rise of a Pakistani agitator

Zaid Zaman Hamid will go down in history for his magnificent statement that "Ajmal Kasab is Amar Singh, a Sikh". That statement should be inscribed on Zaid Hamid's grave stone in due course of time.

Youth in IOK keen to join army

True, one has to watch out against double agents. That said, the JK Light Infantry performed very creditably in Kargil, 1999. It would not be good to deny a chance to everybody for the crimes of a few bad eggs. Such bad eggs have been found even amongst Hindus.

who is the real threat for pak-taliban or india

This is true to some extent - although the Pakistani Military-Jihadi complex hates India and sponsors terrorism against Indians, the Pakistani common man, especially in Sindh, NWFP, and Balochistan, may actually be quite friendly towards India. Even in the case of Sunni Punjabis, the common man...

Now let's play who is the best Indian member around here!!

Yeah, first Vinod and then Flint. (No offense flint :-) Vinod's posts have an edginess that I like. fateh71, redbaron, and ahmeddsid are pretty good too. But maybe this thread is primarily for Pakistanis to comment?

India working to make Bangladesh a desert

Our friend found one or two supposedly Indian posters to feed his frenzy and paranoia and now he's going ballistic. I cannot guarantee that this "Tornado" is not another ID for Munshee jee.

India's Army Chief Was In Conspiracy To Sabotage Indian Missile Test

Yes, this is interesting. AK Antony is good sort of fellow, and he has been pushing for indigenization. I have had reservations about Sonia Gandhi but obviously AK Antony holds his position as Defense Minister with her consent.

India's Army Chief Was In Conspiracy To Sabotage Indian Missile Test

Kaal, some of your concerns are valid - for example, I heard that India is buying an aircraft for the PM from the US (an Indian version of Air Force One). How difficult would it be to plant bugs on that, or even remotely sabotage the avionics through radio signals? But the problem is that...

    Map of India, 1760

Jammu was conquered by Maharaja Ranjeet Singh in 1816, and Kashmir was conquered in 1819. Ladakh was added in 1834, and then Baltistan in 1841.

It's just that Saurashtra is left uncolored. There were several small kingdoms there - Morvi, Junagadh, Bhavnagar etc.

    India - An ‘artificial state’

This statement is symptomatic of the poor quality of this entire article. APJ Abdul Kalam was never in India's nuclear establishment. Also, the Mughal was effectively dead well before 1857. See the post http://www.defence.pk/forums/military-history/22093-map-india-1760-a.html#post307316 .

    Map of India, 1760

This map shows the India of 1760, and is from The Public Schools Historical Atlas edited by C. Colbeck. Longmans, Green, and Co. 1905. The image is from the University of Texas Library's historical maps section. The region in yellow shows the territory controlled by the Marathas at that...

Geo news correspondent killed in Swat

A very good point. The mindset is what needs to be changed. Of what good is education if an extremist mindset is promoted through official school textbooks? There have been other threads about that on this forum. Hopefully it doesn't have to come to that.

India working to make Bangladesh a desert

These are one-sided stories which make some allegations but do not bother to present the Indian response. But IMHO India should be proactive in responding to all such concerns.

    India Supporting Taliban-US Intel Official

Besides the Embassy in Kabul, India has only 4 consulates - Kandahar, Jalalabad, Herat and Mazar-e-Sharif. That is not unreasonable, given the number of Afghans that need to come to India for medical care, trade and education, and the need to administer the aid program. Pakistan should do...

India working to make Bangladesh a desert

I am sure all issues can be discussed rationally and resolved according to international norms. For example, the Baglihar dam design on the Chenab river in J&K was approved by a World bank appointed neutral expert. But some people want to deliberately whip up emotions, rage, paranoia and...

India working to make Bangladesh a desert

Some Bangladeshi Razakar extremists are whipping themselves into an anti-India frenzy. Their first target is the democratically elected Awami League government. But I think Bangladeshis are now too smart to get carried away by their frenzy and paranoia.
