It would have been awesome if a hollywood production pickedup on the Mahabharat or Ramayan script and turned it into a 300 styled movie. I know it wont ever happen, because the hindu nationalists will go berserk over the slightest mistakes.
Mahabharat is distinctly a north Indian epic. Ramayana however revolved around south India aswell.

BUT during its birth, bollywood was started by Punjabi/urdhu/hindi speakers of north India. Most people within the industry already had family/social ties. And it catered towards "that crowd".

See often I hear people say that there is a notable difference in the skin tone between the Brahmins and the people that they are surrounded by. Maybe there is some truth to this, but I think its but the difference is exaggerated imho.
