Haven't you heard of the Indian Institute of Space Science and Technology (IIST)?
IIST is India's national institute for the study and development of space science, located at Thiruvananthapuram. IIST is sponsored by the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) under Department of Space...
It is clearly stated in my post that it is not a weapon. But it has the potential to be developed into a weapon. Maybe it is already being developed as a secret project. Read the part under "As A Weapon".
I know, I heard the soviets were trying to develop the technology even before it was used in the F-22. A considerable amount of time and money was spent on developing it in the Yak-41/Yak-141 program. In their opinion, such a nozzle was suited to changes in configurstion for thrust vectoring and...
I am just an amateur and I could be wrong, but from what I heard, such a "rectangular" nozzle helps to reduce an aircraft's heat signature. that helps you from being detected in the first place. These nozzles can still allow 2D TVC like in the F-22. Both 3D TVC and these nozzles help in their...
We cannot say that the F-22 is better or the PAK FA or the J-XX is better at this point of time as the PAK FA and J-XX is still under development. Lot of information is classified and we can only speculate. We cannot say that just because the Chinese don't enjoy a reputation of designing...
Ever heard of the KALI program??
The KALI (Kilo Ampere Linear Injector) is a linear electron accelerator being developed in India, by the Defence Research Development Organization (DRDO) and the Bhabha Atomic Research Centre (BARC).
The KALI is not a laser weapon as commonly believed. It emits...
I read that the US is developing stealth ordinance pods to allow the F-22 to operate at full payload capacity without compromising stealth. Any updates on that?
Something that happened over 60 years ago cannot be used as an indication of the way things are today. The P-51 Mustang was designed and built in just 117 days. But how long did it take to develop the F-22 or any modern fighter for that matter? Things are not as simple as they were then. In war...
So do you think that even if the F-22 has a lower RCS than the PAK FA (which is very likely) do you think the PAK FA will see the F-22 first and have the upper hand?
Finally, you decided to present some facts to prove your statements. Just to be clear, I never said that the F-22 lacked in performance, I was only saying that these exorbiant maintainance costs would drastically increase operational costs and that has been my point from the start of this...
You are wrong here mate. The LCA is currently indergoing testing and has passed every test thrown at it including LEH trials. If all goes well, it would get operational clearance by possibly December and we can expect induction in early 2011. LCA Mk2 can be expected by 2013-2014.
Maybe...
You are right. The T-50 is the name of the prototype that was made under the PAK FA program. It is likely to get a sukhoi designation in the future though it wont necessarily be Su-50 (The Su-47 was first called the S-37). In fact, Sukhoi usually usually gives even-numbered designations for...
It is too early to really compare the two aircraft as both are still in development. My knowledge about the J-XX is limited, but I'll place my bets on the PAK FA.
I am reading in many places like defency industry daily that the brazilian deal is worth about $2.2 billion for 36 planes + ToT. If that is the case, can we expect deals in the range of $8billion? Can I get an expert's opinion on this?
The frequent MiG-21 crashes are due to a variety of reasons- inadequate pilot training, insufficient maintainence and the raw age of the plane. India has been operating MiG-21s since the early 1960s. Over such a long period, the number of crashes will also compound. Crashes of ancient MiG-21s...
