Has the Pakistani army given up defending it's people?

...ok...but how are Pakistanis going to improve the economy when they have minimal to zero agency in deciding their political leadership (whom the Army influences one way or another)? Or with minimal access to the economy itself due to rent-seeking elites (tied into or backed by Army)? Or even...

Zardari sees Bangladesh as underdeveloped country compared to Pakistan

Not sure what's more impressive...Zardari's shamelessness, or his poor lying.

Pakistan officially joins Turkish KAAN fighter jet program

It's more of the PAF recognizing the Kaan and expressing interest in the program. I don't think we've signed any formal accords for a joint venture yet.

Russia Wagner Mutiny | Updates & Discussions

I swear this can be the plot of a Metal Gear Solid or Ace Combat game.

    Defence Economics

No Pakistani has a problem with defence spending, they have a problem with the military's rent-seeking behavior in the economy. We cannot tolerate it (i.e., army businesses, generals in industry, etc) because it's a security risk. It alters the incentive mindset of commanding officers (from...

Loot sale : Entire Karachi Port leased to Abu Dhabi for 50 years for $50 million dollars. Chief economist general asim munir

There are few things in the world that'll annoy the Chinese... Karachi is one of them. I remember an uncle telling a joke, "if America invades, even they'll ignore Karachi." The city is only on the spectrum out of courtesy; it's a unique animal where the actual, accessible city is relatively...

Pakistan's Defense Minister and the Strategic Dilemma Facing Pakistan

I think the sense here is, "If not the generals, then are we going to let the corrupt politicians run the show?" Though the concern about corrupt politicians is 100% true, it's also clear that these politicians cannot survive without the Army's leadership. PTI was brought in and taken out by the...

Pakistani billionaire father and son, British explorer, French diver and company’s CEO are the five members aboard submersible

Finding a sub is actually one of the hardest tasks out there -- that's one of the biggest draws of submarine warfare. It puts the PN's investment in SWATS and UUVs into perspective. @SQ8

Chief of the Air Staff Desk.

Good to see the PAF basically acknowledge and pursue the KAAN. Of the high-risk options, it's the most sensible one (versus making an Ace Combat original anime unicorn fighter at home).

They started making fun of Overseas Pakistanis on national tv

Lol...she's clearly projecting there, but tbh, no shame in cleaning toilets. Any honest labour is respectable and commendable. Emphasis on the "honest."

Sultan Baybars - From Slave to Saviour of Islam

The old Muslim heroes rose to the surface thanks to multiple generations of people who did work before them. People are more aware of Salahuddin (rrh) than Zengi (rrh), for example. We won't see it today, but I'm sure the unsung sacrifices of activists and thinkers today will form the groundwork...

IMF comes down hard on Pakistan’s budget proposals

You're a national security threat if you read past page 1 of any Econ 101 textbook. Our rulers are approaching the IMF the same way they approach the domestic economy, "give me money." They don't think about building sustainable revenue sources, avoiding rent-seeking, offsetting imports with...

Pakistan Army's VT-4 Main Battle Tank | Updates & Discussions

Did the PA ever think about fielding an IFV with a 105 mm cannon as a 'light tank?' Especially if it thought about acquiring an IFV?

The Balance of Air power in Sub-continent considering latest inductions of Platforms / capabilities by PAF

IMO...any PAF F-16 upgrade will come from the U.S., especially for the C/Ds. ITAR-free Ozgur is probably a JF-17 thing.

The Balance of Air power in Sub-continent considering latest inductions of Platforms / capabilities by PAF

It's not so much about the technical limitations, but the political and foreign relations ramifications for both Turkiye and Pakistan. While the Turks are working to secure their supply channel, they depend on the US for trade and investment. Ditto for Pakistan, and we're in an even more...

The Balance of Air power in Sub-continent considering latest inductions of Platforms / capabilities by PAF

The issue with the Ozgur is that its most crucial part is literally the F-16. So, IMO, the U.S. will put a block on upgrading those fighters via a 3rd party like Turkiye. That said, I think there might be a chance to study a JF-17 upgrade based on the Ozgur; this may be a neat way of offering...

Pakistan Navy Chief Desires a Nuclear Submarine to restore Balance of Power in the region

IMO our 'educated class' are a continuation of 'administrators' who took the reigns of the country back in 1947. Back then, too few of them were trained or capable to pioneer new ground (though the ones present did do a lot), but now, the pioneers are non-existent (at least in the system).

Sultan Baybars - From Slave to Saviour of Islam

Exactly. We don't need to venerate either Baibars or Qutuz for their skills on the battlefield. They were good, sure, but they defeated an advance force of the Mongols, and in a pyrrhic victory at best. And yes, they also had their flaws, be it in character or in how they handled their internal...
