The island itself is pretty heavily fortified, and with a large, entrenched army.
Philippines must learn much from the struggles done by Vietnam in resisting foreign aggression as stated in its history against Chinese, French and Americans similarly in the case of Israel in resisting its Arab neighbors.
I think US forces are very much welcome in Philippines, so why not allow US base in the Spratlys so they monitor Chinese ships passing through their EEZ?
With every day passing by, I think China feels trapped and isolated.
Either way you look at it we are all at the mercy of the world's superpower may it be US or China.
